Pic below. Babies face and head is very red - looks blistered.. ish
It's so itchy its started to bleed where he has been scratching it. Has been massively unsettled today too.

Can't get a GP call until Thursday
Not the best picture but it's hard to get a clear pic of it

I didn't want to read and run, but if that were my DS I would take him to the walk in center I think. Looks like an allergy? Maybe try an antihistamine if he is old enough! Hope he gets sorted it looks painful !

Valhalla17 · 20/09/2022 20:21

Have you got any calamine or aloe gel to cool it all down a bit?

Nat888 · 20/09/2022 20:24

Hes 4 months only just appeared the other day. No other symptoms. I might have some aloe gel so will give that a try

No walk in centres near me I don't think but I'll have another look

It could be cradle cap/dermatitis...lots of babies get this at some point. Try the aloe if you have some to cool it down/soothe and then maybe some coconut oil beyond that (in a days time). That helped my ds when he had it anyway. But def see the gp as soon as you can. Hope he feels more comfortable soon

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/09/2022 20:34

Are you using any soaps/ shampoo? Stop using everything, just water at bath time.

Nat888 · 20/09/2022 20:39

Thanks all. I'm only using water at Bath time. He's very unsettled with the itching but otherwise fine - no temp poo and wee ok... its just so sore bless him. I'll keep it as cool as I can until I can see a GP

Do you use fabric conditioner?

A little yes... but would that make it come up on his face...?

Yes could do from sheets. I wouldn't use any softener at all,it's notorious for irritating skin.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 20/09/2022 21:02

Don't use aloe gel. You need to get him in to the GPs to check it's nothing that needs medication.

Keep baths to once or twice a week, Luke warm water and no products in it just clean water. You can put some oats into a sock or toes of a pair of tights and run that under the tap to make oaty water which is soothing (that's why aveeno skincare products are oat based) if you think you need something extra.

It's possible that you'll be advised to use an emollient in the bath water by the GP but it's best to keep things as simple as possible till you get that advise.

Nat888 · 20/09/2022 21:05

Thanks all. I'll not use anything on his skin or in washing. I literally can't get a GP appointment until Thurs and even that's only a call.. I'll keep it as cool as I can with water for now and if it gets a lot worse I'll try a walk in centre

Update - GP looked him over today and is sure its just dry skin/eczema. Said keep moisturising and get him to wear scratch mittens. If no better in 2 weeks go back and van look at some stronger cream.
Thanks all for your replies ❤️ hoping it clears soon

Glad he is getting sorted! Heard amazing things about the Avveno Dermexa range but it's pretty pricy! Might get it under control for you?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/09/2022 14:37

Plain old Aveeno is fantastic, I'd still cut out all fabric softeners/ bath stuff until it calms down.

I use child's farm moisturiser for any light eczema flare-ups. It was designed to be mild enough for young children. It can be bought from supermarkets, super drug etc. It rubs in very well and helps with the itchiness for me

I don't know how people use that, I've read so many good reviews but omg it stings me and I have to wash it off immediately!

Nat888 · 21/09/2022 14:57

Thanks all! Will give those recommendations a go xx

oh 😮

It was the only thing I could use when I had a horrendous all over body lupus flare. It was so bad my skin peeled. All the stuff from dermatology at the hospital didn't help at all. So thats why I recommended it. I went through gallons of the stuff, should have had shares in it 😆
