Help me, am I buying too much?

Ok, so I started autumn/winter shopping for my DS and I have a feeling I’m overbuying things.
So far I have already
• one lightweight waterproof/wind proof jacket
• one lightweight not very thick puffer jacket, not waterproof
• one cosy fluffy Borg jacket for colder weather
• one pair of waterproof trousers
• and I’m thinking to buy also a snowsuit all in one in case proper winter comes.

Im looking at all list now and it seems a lot.
For reference DS is now 19m so this should be all outdoor wear until springtime.

I reckon you could cut out the second coat on the list and the waterproof trousers if you're buying a puddlesuit.

tealandteal · 18/09/2022 21:51

I think you just need one puddlesuit as that’s lightweight and then a warm coat.

I always have tons for winter so it can be rotated/spares in the car etc. but it's all passed on to me. If you want more then look on local selling pages. I've just given away 4 puddle suits for example.

You don’t need all this - they will grow so quick .. stick with a decent warm waterproof coat and a puddle suit

I wouldn’t buy a snowsuit unless you’re actually going skiing. When my eldest was that age it was winter and we lived in Chicago which is really properly cold and still barely got any use out of a snowsuit- only really used it was sub minus 10 and/or there was more than 6 inches of snow but we still had to walk somewhere. In the UK waterproofs over normal trousers and a decent coat is usually more than sufficient. Now we’re back in the UK, I don’t intend on putting my youngest, currently 19 months, in a snowsuit ever outside of ski holidays.

I'd get a winter coat with layers, one that has a fleece and a waterproof outer layer so you can wear one or the other or both together.

And a puddle suit. A warm one if you live somewhere where it's likely to snow.

I wouldn't bother with waterproof trousers.

Thank you for replies!

Actually to clarify the first one on the list the light waterproof jacket he’s already wearing these days, specially when we go out in the morning it’s quite chilly.
So then I’m left with 2 different autumn/spring jackets and waterproof/windproof/showerproof fleece lined all in one suit.

At what age they start buying their own clothes? 😫

I bought DS waterproof trousers and he never wore them. I also wouldn't buy a snowsuit for a toddler. You might get one or two days use of it (assuming you're in the UK) but our winters are generally so mild. Plus a toddler doesn't need as many layers as a baby as they're generally running round a lot more. I used to take DS winter hat off and he'd be a sweaty mess underneath.

It depends on your lifestyle.

DD has a set of everything that lives at nursery. I also have a horse and she has designated coat and waterproofs for the yard as they stink (she also rides a friends teeny pony).
Then I like to have a coat or two and waterproofs that are for home that don’t stink of horse wee and look less urchin-like.

So in short, I have loads. But it’s almost all secondhand and cheap/free. If I didn’t have the horse and she didn’t have nursery I’d need less.
