Need advice - chicken pox

I have a 10 week old baby. Due to go to a party this weekend the baby whose party it is has chicken pox which have only just appeared today!
I know it's risky when you're pregnant. I have googled it and it says it's rare for babies to get it within their first year but I don't want to take any risks at all, if there is any chance of my baby getting it. I have no idea about chicken pox really. Any advice?

Chicken pox is one of those inevitable childhood illness that most kids get, and it's certainly better to get it in childhood than in adulthood. The vast majority of kids will be fine, with only a small number getting seriously ill. So when my kids got it I wasn't alarmed.
BUT I would never in a million years have knowingly exposed them to it. Deliberately making a child ill is really not what a decent parent does! And apart from anything else, imagine the lifelong guilt you'd feel if you exposed them and they got very ill.

Also, it's easier when they're a bit older and can understand what's going on. And you can distract them with TV and bribe them with toys!
