2.5yo with Perioral Dermatitis (possibly)

I was just looking to see if anyone else’s toddler has/had Perioral Dermatitis. My 2.5yo has very very sensitive skin and a history of eczema, he has suddenly started with an intermittent rash around his mouth area however it really varies in degrees of severity, sometimes it’s almost not there but after certain foods or if I wipe his mouth (with anything - even water and a soft flannel) it becomes quite angry looking.

I’m hesitant to think allergy because it’s after a whole range of food and he has zero other symptoms off an allergy. It’s also only in certain places around his mouth. This all started after I used babywipes which were slightly different variation to his usual type on his face. We spoke to GP over phone who has prescribed mild steroid cream for a week but wasn’t overly concerned.

Could Perioral Dermatitis look worse after food/wiping? It varies in presentation it can look blotchy but on closer inspection I can see little dots. Totally flat to skin and doesn’t bother him at all. Pics on Google vary too but looks similar to some of them. Any miracle cures?

I would have thought the most likely is a sort of sensitivity rash resulted from food/ wiping and licking. Licking round
lips can cause difficult rashes that are hard to get rid of!! I would stop using all baby wipes on his face, even water wipes, and use cotton wool/ flannel instead. Use lots of plain moisturiser, some Vaseline type ointment before going out in the wind/ to play etc and watch him like a hawk to check he isn’t licking/ touching. Avoid acidic foods like tomato based/strawberries etc just for a week or so as they can irritate.
