8 week old constant wind

Hey all,

I am really struggling with my 8 week old and I am looking for advice / solidarity of yours was similar.

For the last 4 weeks he has had constant farts that cause him great discomfort. When I say constant, I mean it! Over 30 farts a day sometimes, often can't stand to be on his back at night and if he does fall asleep he will wake up writhing and screaming trying to fart. It has got steadily worse over the last 4 weeks.

I have tried infacol, gripe water and probiotics. I still use infacol but I don't know if it would be worse without it, gripe water made him worse, and the probiotics have just made him poop a bit less.

He is ebf and I have had the latch checked multiple times, its always been good. I also wind after every feed and try and keep him upright. His cot is also now tilted.

To help him fart I bicycle leg, tummy massage, warm baths, and rotate his legs in a figure of 8. This gets loads of farts out but there always seems to be more. I spent an hour solid doing it earlier and got about 10 farts out, but he is still writhing when placed on his back with more coming out. It is another night of no sleep at all for me...

I am losing my mind with sleep deprivation and I don't know how to fix it. He is a pretty grumpy baby and moans and cries often. He is currently curled up in my lap asleep farting, but I know the moment I try and place him in the cot he will scream whilst farting.

Has anyone else had this experience, and of so did it get better on its own?

Sorry if this is a little incoherent, I am absolutely exhausted.

My LO was like this, he was nicknamed
" windy baby" we used infacol too and not sure if it really helped or whether it was just a placebo. Anyway a retired midwife told me to give him just 15 - 20mls of warm water ( I know you are advised not to but out of desperation I tried it) and it did help a lot.
Sending you a handhold as I know what you are going through.

Have you tried cutting things out of your diet?

Happitwist · 16/09/2022 08:55

@Surgarblossom the water idea is a new one. I don't see how it could harm him as formula babies are advised to give a bit of water every now and then, I might give that a go!

@Aiionwatha I have and nothing seems to have much effect other than caffeine which I haven't touched since he was around 2 weeks old (doesn't help the tiredness!!). He is exactly the same no matter what I eat :(

His poops are fine which baffles me, and he does around 4 big poops a day which everyone tells me is normal.
