Am I a bad grandmother?

went to dd's yesterday and asked if I could give ds1 and ds2 a mini pack of Smarties - to which she said no cos they wouldn't eat their tea - fair enough.

Later that night I was watching X-Factor and fancied some chocolate so I ate the Smarties

You're so on my wavelength JoolsToo ...

hmb · 28/11/2004 18:54

I'm bad then!

I have opened a cupboards door to eat a choc bar I didn't want to share!

I regularly have to buy the kids another set of easter eggs/ choc santas!

morningpaper · 28/11/2004 18:54

No that's quite restrained.

I often open a packte of sweets, give ONE to dd, and then scoff the rest when she's walked off.

Glad it's not just me then.

JoolsToo · 28/11/2004 19:00

am sure you all got the drift but that should have been 'gds1' and 'gds' 2 more embarrassed about that than eating the choccies

Well I took ds1 for his eyetest on Friday - armed with a packet of smarties for if he was good (I knew he wouldn't want to try the 'glasses' on or have the patch over his eye) despite the promise of smarties for good behaviour he kicked off and embarrassed me totally so didn't get the Smarties. He forgot about them actually but later I discovered them in my bag while working in the office and, yes, you've guessed it, I SCOFFED THEM!

Gobbledigook · 28/11/2004 19:12

Oh, and I do that 'eating a biscuit behind the fridge or cupboard door' thing!!

'What are you eating Mum?'

'Nothing. Isn't Postman Pat on in the other room?'

Donbean · 28/11/2004 19:15

Well if we are confessing to stuff................Ive openend Ds's advent calender and eaten several chocolates......and sealed up the doors again.

Donbean · 28/11/2004 19:16

OBVIOUSLY i shall be replacing said advent calender

Gobbledigook · 28/11/2004 19:16

PMSL Donbean!!!!

KateandtheGirls · 28/11/2004 19:18

GDG, we know where you get it from then!

Donbean · 28/11/2004 19:20

Its tradition in my house. I end up buying about 6 new advent calenders before December even gets here.
Also MIL buys me and DH one each....i eat his tooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gobbledigook · 28/11/2004 19:21

LOL KATG!

Hmm, not bought my ds's advent calendars yet. Must get those bought - poor deprived children!

Donbean · 28/11/2004 19:22

The law is though "it absolutely does not count if the chocolate belongs to someone else" calorifically speaking.

Donbean · 28/11/2004 19:25

W&R will confirm this law......

hmb · 28/11/2004 19:31

And also if you eat it standing up, and in a hurry!

Twiglett · 28/11/2004 19:32

I ate 4 of DS's easter eggs this year

figured that makes me a great mum

have also hidden in the dining room eating the last packet of maltesers when DS has been playing in the lounge

I'm a ba.a.a.a.aa.d person

Donbean · 28/11/2004 19:32

Carefully break the chocolate/cake/biscuit in 2 and all the calories will fall out Donbeans top tip!!!!!

Donbean · 28/11/2004 19:33

Superb twigglet pmsl!!!!!!!

Twiglett · 28/11/2004 19:39

am now on a 'holier than thou' slimming world diet though so will never happen again

Twiglett · 28/11/2004 19:40

BTW food taken from someone elses food has no calories

neither does any foodstuff that you eat quickly where no-one can see you

Donbean · 28/11/2004 19:41

Well...not until next easter when the kids will need your help again. Remember you do it for the kids...to be the best mother that you can be..

hatter · 29/11/2004 13:28

My nanny sometime buys smarties to decorate cakes. She has yet to confront me as to why the ones that are left, which could be used for the next cake, somehow miraculously disappear. But she really shouln't leave them in the cupboard should she? Fortunately I don't think the children are articulate or savvy enough to explain why the cake itself has disappeared over the w/e and they've only had one piece each.

hatter · 29/11/2004 13:33

Donbean - I am shocked . As for this eating behind a door business, find me a mum who hasn't. This thread has reminded me though that I have cause to feel very self-righteous (inasmuch as you can feel righteous about not committing a crime). My nanny had asked us last week to get some chocolate so dh came back from the supermarket sat am and put a huge bar of Milka in the fridge. I knew there was no way I could look at it all w/e so I nobly hid it from myself. And I've actually only just remembered. It's still in tact in the cupboard! That's incredible

JoolsToo · 29/11/2004 13:36

yeah - but now you've remembered where it is - hey come back - thats not your chocolate!
