Nanit Pro Positioning

Hi all, looking at the Nanit Pro as a potential video baby monitor. The dilemma is that for the first 6 months, baby will be in a next2me crib and not in the actual cot in the nursery.

Now the Nanit Pro comes with a floor stand which is perfect for a cot and according to Nanit, it should be placed on the long side of the cot (opposite to the end where you will pick up the baby) but as we will be having baby in a next2me crib in the bedroom for the first few months (possibly 6) I would need to place the Nanit stand on the short end of the crib.

Has anyone used a Nanit Pro in this fashion and does it work well?

Thanks

We had it and put it the long side of the cot but just not the side that’s attached to the bed if makes sense? It was fine. Tbh I think they specify only for the breathing monitoring so it works properly with the camera, if you’re not planning on using that then it doesn’t really matter where you place the camera as long as you can see the baby

I wouldn’t want a camera that’s on a floor stand. Ds could climb out of cot by 18 months so side off soon after. And was walking around his room from 9 months. I would be afraid of a large floor stand being pulled over

ds is now 2 1/2. We still use camera but it’s wall mounted high up in the corner where he can’t reach.

Yeh once in the cot and in the other bedroom we would probably walk mount it too. This is just for now while we use the little crib

I saw on some review videos that it can cause issues with false alarms and video is the wrong orientation of the camera is on the short side?

The false alarms are only if you are using the breathing motion with the breathing band. We used it for our first and tbh the position of the camera didn’t seem to make any difference. We had 2 false alarms and both times were because the band had come loose. I’d nearly not recommend using the breathing motion because even tho we only had 2 false alarms it gave me such anxiety! We haven’t used the breathing monitoring at all with our second

Why do you need camera on crib? They are supposed to sleep in Same room as you first 6 months. So downstairs when your down, your room when up. You won’t need a camera until older

OrlaOrka · 12/09/2022 20:23

We’ve always put ours to bed in our room at around 7pm from 3-4 months. We use the monitor for those few hours to have our evenings back again, but yes it’s not used when we go to bed because they are right next to us.

ukparenting · 12/09/2022 21:48

If that’s the only open side, since the bed is the other side, wouldn’t that get in the way of either you getting in and out of bed or putting baby in and out during daytime naps?

It’s only a very narrow pole so we never had a problem with it. And you’re not going to get into bed by climbing over the cot so I can’t see how that’s an issue 🤣

Sauerkrauted · 13/09/2022 08:08

You can get the multi-stand for it which allows you to put the camera on a flat surface if you have drawers or anything near the cot. We use it when we are travelling as we obviously can’t bring floor stand with us.

ukparenting · 13/09/2022 09:42

Lol true. I guess I’ll have a better idea when I have it in person.

We would be putting baby in same crib upstairs for the naps during day too. Not downstairs

You need to be in the room with the baby for the first six months.

Babies under 6 months shouldn’t sleep alone. So if upstairs in crib to nap, you would be with them.
Hence cameras aren’t really designed to be easily used with Moses basket or crib, as by the time they are old enough to be left alone, they have outgrown and are a normal cot.
fyi - Ds was out of chicco next to me crib by 4.5 months, not due to length, but he could already sit and pull himself up the sides by then so no safe
