Trying baby on CMPA milk

Hi, my baby is 3 weeks old and has been on Kendamil since she was 3 days old (failed BF’ing which I’m still gutted about!)

Anyway, she’s always been a windy baby but back passage wind as opposed to burps. The last 10 days it’s been honestly something else. She farts constantly and I mean constantly, Google said 15-20 farts per day is nothing to worry about but genuinely my baby can do this per hour, the gassyness is crazy and when she’s passing the wind she’s sometimes really uncomfortable so I took her to the doctors, but he said it could be silent reflux so she’s been on carobel. I really don’t think it’s silent reflux, however the carobel thickening the milk along with a variflow teat has been an absolute dream because she’s now drinking 4-5oz whereas previously it was 2oz at a time using a slow flow teat. The dr did say if it’s not silent reflux it could be CMPA

im thinking about changing her milk, but is there any health cons to her being on a dairy free formula? I see my GP later today who I think is going to put us on a CMPA milk but I’m concerned if she doesn’t need it she could be missing out on the good stuff cows milk has? I don’t know, her symptoms are

Diarrhoea
extreme flatulence
nappy rash (not confirmed if related)
coughing
hiccuping
consistent stuffy nose

the only thing she doesn’t have is a skin issue eg rashes, any advice or experience welcome! :D

one more thing, I tried weaning off the carobel but still using the variflow teat but she just gagged and choked on it because she sucked too hard, but the slow flow makes her work too hard so she falls asleep. She’s 4 weeks old on Thursday, can I move her to a size 2 medium teat now?

thanks if you got this far!!

Sorry you're having these issues! Very similar story to my daughter who is indeed CMPA.

Silent reflux is often a symptom rather than a issue in itself. Our silent reflux was a big pointer to the CMPA.

With the special milk, they tend to try it and see if symptoms improve. If they do then after a short while on it, they will get you to trial some normal formula again to see if symptoms return. At that point CMPA is diagnosed properly. So it's definitely worth trialling and if nothing changes or she can tolerate the normal milk once you add in the old one then no harm done and she can go back to the cows milk formula.

In terms of teats, absolutely try number two but heads up that cmpa milks are VERY thin and you'd likely need to go back to the size 1.

Good luck!
