Breakfast ideas please

Dd (11) is really awkward with breakfast. She doesn't want to eat any of the normal breakfast things. In the past she's gone through phases of eating cereal, toast, fruit, croissant, pain chocolat, bagels. But she'll like them for a very brief amount of time and then not want them anymore. She'd happily eat 'crap' for breakfast (biscuits, biscoff spread on toast etc) but I'm not okay with her having a really unhealthy breakfast all the time.

I'd really appreciate breakfast ideas please! We don't have a lot of time in the morning so can't really manage a cooked breakfast (though could possibly stretch to a bacon sandwich, but is that just really unhealthy to have for breakfast EVERY morning!?). Thanks very much for any suggestions

yoghurt with fresh berries, and a drizzle of honey
chicken, ham or bacon sandwich
chocolate Weetabix
overnight oats
crumpets with baked beans on
hard-boiled egg with toast

My dd is very similar.
I bake a batch of healthy(ish) muffins on a Sunday and she has them through the week.
Other things she sometimes has:
Smoothie
Croissants
Pastries (her favourite but too expensive for every day)
Porridge
Toast with tomatoes

Overnight oats - you can tweak the recipe very easily to prevent it getting boring. Just add different fruit, jams, nut butters, toasted nuts, chopped dried fruit, honey....

Thanks very much for suggestions.

Oats are out as she doesn't like them. Ditto for yogurt and anything with baked beans or tomatoes. She only likes egg whites but could maybe cook egg whites for egg on toast. She's previously refused to try crumpets but maybe I could suggest again. Muffins might be a good idea @Flamingoose, thanks I'll look up a healthy muffin recipe. I've thought about smoothies before as well but I'm not sure she'd find them filling enough (I don't).

My dd loves a banana sandwich

GiltEdges · 12/09/2022 13:36

DS tends to have one of these on rotation:

  • banana pancakes (x3 small)
  • homemade banana bran muffin
  • homemade cinnamon waffle with berries
  • Avocado on toast

Sounds like she has a bit of a sweet tooth? What about pancakes or egg waffles (from a packet to make it nice and easy) toasted and topped with some yoghurt, berries and a drizzle of honey?

RobertsRadio · 12/09/2022 13:41

Frankly If she is that fussy and will only eat sweet things just give her toast with Nutella and banana or just do what the French do, hot chocolate and some bread, job done.

wherearetheturrets · 12/09/2022 17:09

Homemade waffles might be a good shout, thanks 👍

Doesn't like banana or avocado. She used to love pancakes with some fruit but won't eat that anymore either 🙄 she seems to have this habit of eating something every day, then getting bored of it. This would be totally fine but once she's gotten bored of it she refuses to have it ever again!

She definitely has a sweet tooth! I don't mind doing a sugary breakfast on occasion but I really don't want her to just eat sugary breakfast every day.

Maybe egg on toast and bacon sandwich are good ones to start with, with the occasional waffles/muffin. Thanks again for suggestions, fingers crossed she'll go for some!

@RobertsRadio oooh hot chocolate and some bread is not a bad idea 🤔 I reckon that would have less sugar in that a lot of other options she'd choose!

Eggy bread

Flamingoose · 13/09/2022 05:33

You can make a smoothie quite filling by adding a a couple of tablespoons of oats.

Another idea - chia pots. Dd and I used to make them each evening and have them for breakfast the next morning. Loads of recipes online.

Don’t get hung up on breakfast needing to be breakfasty. Feed her what she likes as long as it’s quick and reasonably healthy. My DS isn’t a fan of breakfast type foods but will eat a ham sandwich or some leftover bolognese in a roll. Tuna, egg mayo, chicken slices, houmous with bread and veg sticks or some mozzarella on toast are all great choices.
