9 week old cold- can she sleep upright

Hi all

I have read (and experienced) my 9 week old sleeps better currently when she's upright as she is suffering with a slight cold.

Is it safe would you say for her to sleep in what I am using as my breastfeeding cushion (L shaped cushion) she seems very comfortable and her back isn't too angled.

I don't have a crib wedge as such otherwise I would have used this.

Thank you!

The cushion just to add, is on our bed between me and DP. No chance of anything landing on her face to suffocate her- I'm more just worried about her back angle.

I'd have thought no - couldn't the weight of her head potentially cut off her airway?

I wouldn't say so, cushion and sleeping between you and your husband sounds like a high risk for me.

Do you have a next to me? They can usually be tilted, when my LB got poorly at 18 days this was a god send! But I don't think a pillow would be ideal really, I have co-slept on occasion (anything for extra sleep!!) but always had no pillows or quilt near the baby because of the risk. Also the angle of the head can be the issue like the other posts have mentioned, that's why they shouldn't stay in a carseat too long etc!

Hope they settle!

No, not safe. Sorry OP. You could roll up a muslin and use it to slightly angle the cot mattress, if you’re confident she won’t move herself about until she’s lying downhill.

Unfortunately no. You can put some books under the legs of the cot to create an angle. Snufflebabe do a vapo rub that can be used from birth and I have found it very effective in the past.

Thanks all

We E discovered how to 'tilt' her next to me crib so hoping that helps! I've been up 2:30-6:00am with a snotty baby. Only bit of kip I got was when she was laid on the cushion but makes me feel sick I put her in that position

Not sure if mentioned above but the plug in vapour things are good for a cold. It’s tough when they’re so little. My youngest had a lot of bad colds early on and it’s exhausting for everyone as he found it very hard to sleep. We also put books under one end of the cot to tilt it.
