Going away in a few weeks first time with a baby!

Any essentials for the plane journey? The flight is 4 hours and she will be 4 months 🥰

I did an 11 hour plane journey at 13 weeks. You don't need much at that age. If you're breastfeeding then it makes things particularly easy. Bring a foldable stroller, you can take it as far as the gate and then put the baby in a carrier for actually getting on the flight.

Is your baby breastfed? I found that the plane noise put DD right to sleep, she just hung out on my boob for almost the entire 8 hour flight when she was 2.5 months old. I brought way too many toys and didn't use any.

Be sure to know what baggage allowance you have for baby stuff and look into getting a seat where they can attach a bassinette if you want that.

Bassinette seats are a game changer but they're only available on long haul flights.

Multiple outfit changes, a spare outfit for you, muslin cloths.

Just did this with a 3 month old...

  1. A changing mat/nappies/wipes and a change of clothes that you can just grab really quickly - there's no room for scrabbling around in a changing bag in the footwell and having to carry a bag with you makes getting out of your seat harder. I have a mat that folds up with pockets to keep nappies and wipes in.

  2. If she uses a dummy, then either a dummy clip or spares as Sod's law dictates she will drop it.

  3. A carrier or sling. At Gatwick we could take the pram all the way to the gate, but coming home we had to check it in with our luggage so she went in the carrier. Also had her in the carrier for the return flight (not allowed for the outbound).

  4. If it's a day flight, then a light scarf to use to keep the sun out of her eyes as it's really bright up there! Also good if you need to breastfeed.

  5. if you're bottle feeding, enough milk to cover delays. Flying out of UK you can take ice packs through security but you can't in Europe.

Good luck 🤞🏻 x

A seat for the baby, having that extra room really is the most important ‘thing’ you can ‘take’.

A spare outfit for yourself, as its only a four hour flight if you go to the toilet before you might escape using the toilet on the plane, otherwise take a sling to put the baby in while you use the toilet.
