Sling advice / Babywearing / SPD / Mamaruga

Hello. I’d really appreciate some advice from any knowledgeable babywearing families. I was incapacitated during pregnancy by severe SPD and was unable to do any slinging in my baby’s early months. My DH wore him in a stretchy wrap as a newborn and later in an ergobaby 360.

He now weighs 8kg and is still a big fan of being carried. I’m keen to try to do a little slinging now my SPD is coming under control but find the ergobaby very hard going. I feel that the waist support band thing on it is putting most of the weight through my pelvis and that a more shouldery one would suit better. Preferably soft and stretchy so I can sit down in the rocker comfortably once I have got him to sleep by wearing him.

I’ve got my eye on the Mamaruga Zensling as the spread shoulder thing and stretchy fabric look good. Is it comfy on big boobs? I don’t want to squash them as am prone to blocked ducts.

Anyone got any advice on baby wearing for short stretches having had bad SPD? I don’t want to reverse all my progress now I am walking decently again finally but find I am carrying him a lot on my hip and that might be worse than wearing him symmetrically. Or thoughts on Mamaruga zensling ot how it compares to ergobaby?

Thank you.

The best thing you can do is find your local sling library and have a consultation. There's so many different types of carriers out there and they all work best for different people. There they can advise you personally, you can hire some to try and see if you like them before committing to buying.

I had a mamaruga zensling and loved it (and I have big boobs) but as pp said I would try to get to a sling library to see if you can try before buying.

As PPs have said look for a local baby wearing consultant and sling library, they’re fantastic in person.

I also really recommend “Babywearing U.K.” on Facebook.. a hive of babywearing knowledge
