First day back to school - mum guilt

My dd started her year 5 class today and shes been so excited to go back. We have baby dd 8 months old and since she came along school runs have become abit more difficult so I wanted to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible this morning. Yesterday evening I hung up her uniform ready to go and asked my partner to wake us up at a certain time before he goes to work (I do night feeds so alarms don't always wake me) also asked him to make her packed lunch last night when he done his to save me time.
This morning he wakes us up later than I asked so we missed 20 minutes, from that moment everything went wrong! Got baby fed, me and both girls dressed, come downstairs to find dd packed lunch had been left out overnight instead of put in fridge (yogurt was warm) so had to chuck cheese sandwiches make them again, basically made the whole thing up again which put us behind (i know he tried) then baby done explosive poo! Still had to do DD hair and get a 'back to school' photo, get the pram out the back of the car and get to school all in 10 minutes! I shouted at poor dd because she wanted her hair a certain way for her first day back and just didn't have the time 🙃 then we literally ran to school! I was sweating shes out of breath what a bloody nightmare 😳 you imagine these things being so perfect like you see on social media everyone eating breakfast together, skipping to school! But its always far from it isn't it 😂 I feel absolutely awful that I snapped at her doing her hair although she seem to had forgotten about it by time we got out the door! Anyone else's first school run go as badly as ours? 😂

That’s happened to me in the past! Give her a hug and apologise when she gets home and take her out for a cake or something either one night after school or at the weekend as a “back to school treat”. We all have bad days…..

Your problem is your partner.

Your problem is your partner.

Not sure how you came to that conclusion 🤔

Because he didn't wake you when asked and left her packed lunch out. Both of these things made your morning go to pot. He's obviously not reliable

Not sure how you came to that conclusion 🤔

Because you asked him to wake you up in time, and he didn't. And you asked him to make a packed lunch, and he left it on the side so it was useless and had to be redone. He was supposed to make your life easier and instead he basically ruined your whole morning. If he had done the very, very simple tasks you had asked of him, none of this would have happened. It's weaponised incompetence and I'd be fuming.

GoAround · 07/09/2022 16:28

If anyone should be feeling guilty it’s your partner. It would have gone fine if he’d woken you when you asked and put the lunch in the fridge! You shouldn’t feel awful, it’s not your fault he let you down.

TheCornishmaid · 07/09/2022 19:40

He was making us egg soldiers for breakfast that's why he woke us up late- in his mind he was doing a good thing . Normally we would just have cereal! The packed lunch though I'm not sure how he managed that one, another bloke thing 🙄

There's no such thing as a bloke thing. His weaponised incompetence isn't as a result of owning a penis

This is complete and utter bullshit. He's not a toddler!

whingewhinge · 07/09/2022 20:11

Don't "another bloke thing" men aren't idiots. They're perfectly capable if you expect them to be.

Don't worry about your daughter though, am sure she completely forgot about it and had a great day

Hope this morning was better OP.

QforCucumber · 08/09/2022 09:57

Theres nothing 'bloke' about it, did he put his own packed lunch in the fridge? Of course he did!

Relax OP, perfection doesn’t exist - only on Instagram

We had hair drama, shouting, crying and a sweaty rushed walk to school too! We have a 1 year old. Got lovely photos though! We're getting better each day.

Ah thats nice we did too! Takes a while to get back into routine doesn't it - yesterday although we wasn't late we had a moment where we couldn't find dd school shoes 10 minutes of sheer panic.. like how can you lose shoes for christ sake 🙈
Happy Friday!
