i have just started my dd, 2.2, at nursery 2 days a week 9 till 1. it is a lovely place and my friends little boy goes there, who lulu knows and gets on with.
i had 2 visits there where i stayed with lulu for an hour, on friday i left her for an hour on her own. she was ok after a few tears and settled in when she had stopped crying after 5 minutes.
so i took her yesterday to start her first day, and she had literally a few tears and was fine. acutally i was surprised that she didnt cry and scream the place down.she played well and did sticking and generally had a good time. my mum picked her up at 1 and she cried when she saw my mum, i dont know if it was relief that we hadnt left her there forever!
today was a different story, she didnt want to go at all, cried all the way there, screamed when i tried to leave and quite upset heself and me too.
i rang when i got to work and she againwas fine it was just the initial parting that upsets her.

does it get better, or will she cry every time i take her? i know all kids are different, and some more clingy than others, but lulu was a clingy child. she is alot better now than she was, but i expected the first time to bo the worst, and i thought it would get better.
i know it is early days, but would like to hear your experiences with first time at nursery.

Oh poor you - it is heart wrenching when that happens! Rest assured it will get better soon. With my DS I was careful not to make too much of it (I didn't want to reinforce his negative feelings) so whilst I acknowledged he didn't want to go, I was firm that he was going. I'd then be excited to see him when I picked him up and very enthusiastic about all the things he did. It soon passed

i try not to hover about when leaving her there. it has been a swift kiss, and tell her nanny will be back to pick her up (i am still at work)
aparently this is the best way, but i just feel a bit nasty.
i suppose it will take a bit for her to realise that wewill always come back for her.
