3 month old is in the next to be crib and I would leave him in it forever if I could.. but.. he is a dinky little thing, well within the KG limit of the crib (5.4kg) but he is long. And likes to wriggle around so starting to look at cots .. :(

I'm CLUELESS. I mean they literally all look the same and probably are, but what should I be looking for in a long lasting good cot? Budget wise I'm fairly flexible.. I dont mind paying more for good quality. He will be in with us until at least 1, probably longer if that matters. He is my absolute world and after the most horrific pregnancy and almost losing him I want to do everything I can to make sure he is safe and happy at all times.

But I've no idea what I should be looking at - or if it really matters that much or if they are even really that different!

OK, first things first... Don't sweat this. All cots are essentially the same at the end of the day (literally). Things to look for are adjustable height settings so a younger baby is higher up in the cot; bars that are far enough apart you can easily get your hand through to shush-pat your baby; and, ideally, will convert into a toddler bed in a couple of years time. Do look at your local Facebook marketplace, there are some huge bargains to be had. We had/have a mothercare cot which is now a bed. It's been great, the only thing I regretted for a while was how low down the lowest setting felt, as I'm not very tall and struggled to reach the bottom.

Literally any cot is fine. They are the same from what I know. So long as you can lower the base to make sure it’s at the right height for your baby it really doesn’t matter.

A cot bed will last ages. Converts to a toddler bed and you can adjust the height depending on the age of baby.

Cots are pretty much all the same - pick one you like!

Ikea and John Lewis ones are nice or if you have a bigger budget the scandi design ones are very pretty

As PP have said cots are essentially the same, they all have to comply with the same safety standards. The features that differ are 2 or 3 mattress heights and whether it converts into a toddler bed.

I'd save your money on the cot, unless you have a particular aesthetic, and spend on the mattress. It should be firm. IKEA and john lewis as PP suggested do well for their cot mattresss too when tested by which? so they are good places to start.

Thank you! I did wonder if it even really mattered - so many choices and completely in the dark! I won't over think this one then:)

I think they're all much of a muchness. We've got one with some storage underneath which is really handy for sheets, blankets, nappies etc but other than that it's just aesthetics.
