Exactly that really. How old were your DC when they stopped day naps?

Around 2 years and only naps in the day now when she poorly.

basilmint · 04/09/2022 15:12

I pushed it for three months as I was pregnant and desperate for a break but didn't get anywhere. No luck but I did manage to instill "quiet time" in her room with audio books and toys.

Apollonia1 · 04/09/2022 15:15

My twins are 2.5 and napping now. They have a solid 1.5 hours nap. Long may it continue.
I got a Yoto box and plan to put on audio books once they stop napping, to still have "quiet time" in their bedroom.

DS1 at twelve months
DS2 napped for two hours until he was three.

MumJourney · 04/09/2022 15:31

Around 2. Gutted! She's nearly 3 now and realistically should be napping as she often ends up overtired in the afternoons but she simply refuses to so we've had to just go with it. Plus side, bedtimes are a breeze and she's out like a light!

bluesky45 · 04/09/2022 16:06

DS1 is almost 5 and still naps about 3 days a week, usually in the car.
DS2 is 3.5 and naps about 5 days a week, maybe more. I tend to have to make an effort keep him awake if I don't want him to nap one day.

Mommabear20 · 04/09/2022 16:23

DD is 2y2m and has stopped napping in the last few weeks. Was hoping she'd carry on for a while as I'm pregnant with number 3 (DS is 1 so still napping for a couple of hours) but she will still be awake at 9pm if she naps and as that's the only time DH and I get together or to just chill out, then it's bye bye nap time!

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 04/09/2022 16:28

My son was 3 in August and still naps. He moved to the preschool room in his nursery where they don't offer naps but he was coming home almost asleep from the 2 minute car journey home and not eating dinner and going straight to sleep poor soul.
So I had to ask nursery to still give him a nap and he's having about 45mins to 1hr there.
He naps 1-2 hours at home but I'd say his bedtime is getting later because he is still quite awake, probably due to his nap so I think I'll have to start reducing the length of his naps soon.

faithtrustandixiedust · 04/09/2022 16:32

16 months, I was not ready!
She's almost 3 now and only ever naps if she is ill or we're on a really long drive

Cyprusx · 04/09/2022 16:41

About 3 weeks before starting reception 😂

CastleTower · 04/09/2022 16:46

About two and a quarter, but very resistant from age 2 (and no longer napped at nursery from 2, as she'd figured out how fun it was to stay awake when the others were asleep 😄).

She still tends to fall asleep if we have a 1+ hour car journey in the afternoon, though. (But then gets less sleep overall because she won't go to bed!)

BurningBenches · 04/09/2022 16:54
  1. Sometime between 1 and 2 but she was in fulltime nursery so that was their problem. Also she slept well at night and I was young so that was OK.

2,3 and 4 all stopped before 2.

Pinning all my hopes on number 5 being one of these babies who nap til 4 or something.

Brendabigbaps · 04/09/2022 16:57

i officially stopped trying at 18mths, in reality about 14mths. ADHD diagnosed now

Oysterbabe · 04/09/2022 17:19

Around 3 and it was a huge relief, bedtime was A LOT easier after that.

roarfeckingroarr · 04/09/2022 17:45

23 month old is still having a two hour nap around midday and long may that remain!

Well I definitely noticed this today. 23m old had zero interest in napping today (despite opportunities too) and fell asleep within 5min at an earlier than usual bedtime.

At least I get the entire evening to chill now I suppose!

Almost 4.

Job123455666 · 04/09/2022 22:29

Mine is 3 & 4 months and still naps most days it’s lovely

Job123455666 · 04/09/2022 22:36

I do agree bedtime is easier if they haven’t napped, but then there ratty all day with no nap in my case .

Ihaveoflate · 04/09/2022 22:58

We capped it to 30 minutes at around 2 years when bedtime began to drift and dropped altogether by 2.5.

I prefer to have my evenings than that break after lunch. I don't miss planning days around naps at all.

SuperlativeOxymoron · 04/09/2022 23:04

DS is 3, he still has half hour/45 min since days. Others doesn't need it, although he becomes a monster as bedtime approaches on those days. I suspect he'll be having his last significant nap (as in will only nap on long drives and super busy days, so less than once a fortnight) between Christmas and Easter. That is purely based on how he condensed his naps to one and shortened then, nothing scientific or psychic about that judgement.

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 04/09/2022 23:12

2.4 and then restarted at 2.9-3.3 for the 4 days he wasn't at nursery

2 though would nap if in the car after 2 but then bedtime was a nightmare

tiredandstripey · 04/09/2022 23:20

Former nursery worker here. Agree with pp that lots of kids go through a phase around 18-24 months where they seem very resistant to napping and seem like they want to drop it, however in my experience very few are actually ready to properly drop it at this age. Sometimes the timing just needs tweaking or the nap needs to be capped at 45 mins. If he is currently having 1-1.5 hours but sometimes fighting the nap then I’d try capping it to 45 mins and that should allow him to build a bit more sleep pressure over the following 24 hours.

Ifyouknowyouknowyouknow · 05/09/2022 09:20

When DS got to about 2 we tweaked it by cutting his nap short (from 2 hours to 1) and pushing his bedtime back (from 7ish to 7.45). So he was getting less sleep overall than he had been previously. But I preferred this as he was well rested throughout the day (no afternoon/evening melt downs), we/his nanny got a rest in the middle of the day, and it meant I got to spend a bit more time with him in the evenings on my working days. I think a lot of people expect their toddlers to sleep 7-7 with a 2 hour nap and that’s not really realistic for most. But 7-6 or 8-7 with a 1 hour nap usually works well.
