Hi, I have recently found out I am pregnant (failed protection) and I have had my two children placed with thier grandparent over 3 years ago because of my ex. unfortunately after they were removed my mental health went bad cause they were taken and due to this I haven't got them back in my care. I haven't seen them in a very long time, due to someone making a threat toward my ex and me getting the blame for it. So my question is what will happen now? I'm going to tell the midwife when I have my first appointment and I imagine she will make a referral. My situation has changed completely, I'm with a new partner of 3 years and it's a great healthy relationship and my mental heath has improved significantly. I just need some advice.

Congratulations on your pregnancy op, although i imagine this just feel like a worrying time for you. How old were your oldest 2 children when they were removed from your care? And do you know if your current partner has any previous charges for any violence or abuse?

The social workers will want to know how you've changed to be able to offer protective care now, just be open with them and follow their advice

Don’t say what you’ve said on here. You’re placing all the blame elsewhere, you need to take some personal responsibility for your children being taken away. What could you have done differently and what are you doing now to make sure your home is suitable for your children and how are you taking steps to be a suitable parent. Making excuses doesn’t reflect well on you and will just raise more red flags.

You'll have a new assessment which will take into account the past but also the changes since then.

There will be a multi agency safeguarding referral made and there will be a child and family assessment whilst you are pregnant to see what support you need to be able to parent this child and to look at what support etc you have around. They will contact professionals and check you are engaging and will ask for consent to contact your gp and midwife and due to your mental health issues you may be referred to the mental health midwives which just means you get seen a little but more frequently and you will see the same midwife throughout.

The new assessment will be done going on your midwife's reports and social services own reports. It is very likely your child will be subject to the child protection register when they are born and if there is no need for concern, deregistered after a monitoring period.

It entirely depends on your personal circumstances but assuming you are coping, stable, and not under the influence of addiction or with abuse factors, this should be the roadmap. But be prepared to be up front, honest, take full responsibility and evidence all the steps needed to prove this.
