Nursery and mealtimes

This is probably a beyond stupid question but only just occured to me today after picking up DD (14 months) from her first day at nursery.

We had been in a nice routine of eating together as a family at 6pm and going up for bath and bed at 6.30.

At nursery they have a pretty early lunch and then 'tea' at 3.30 which is a substantial meal (pasta today) and then an afternoon snack.

So she doesn't need a proper dinner at 6 anymore and on days that I'm in the office I won't have time to collect her and get dinner on the table in time anyway.

So what do you give your toddlers between early nursery dinner and bed? Just snacks?

I feel stupid just writing this!

Yep. 2 yo DS is about to have crumpet with marmite, some cheese and tomatoes. That’s the usual sort of thing post nursery.

I just offer a small portion of whatever I'm having, he normally doesn't have it. I posted this very question with my first.

We give picky bits eg fruit and yogurt, toast and a banana, as he got older it would be a ham wrap with some fruit and salad. Beans on toast. All small portions and let him have what he wants

Mine normally has a second tea. Like a hobbit. Usually just a small portion of that nights family meal but sometimes more sort of snacky bits like cheese, crackers, yoghurt, fruit.

She's an absolute whirlwind and never stops moving so maybe has a higher appetite than some.

Toast or porridge usually! It’s a hard one isn’t it 😫

Quick and easy meals here for us - things on toast, quesadillas, maybe an omelette. Sometimes it gets eaten, sometimes it doesn't often depending on how much DS enjoyed the day's food at nursery.

I'm glad you asked this as I've been puzzling over this myself, so reading the replies with interest.

Thanks everyone - I don't know why today just threw me. Second tea it is. Actually it'll be nice to have a different grown up dinner a bit later 3 times a week. She eats what we eat but it's depressing cooking with low salt all the time!
