Is this the best machine out there or are there any other good ones to make baby formula? Thank you in advance 👍🏻

We love ours! Wouldn’t be without it.

I would urge you to do your research

We have one and wouldnt be without it. We read all the stories about it harbouring bacteria etc, obviously it will if not maintained properly.
You need to ensure you run regular cleaning cycles and change the filters at the correct intervals.
If you dont look after it then im sure there is a risk of there being a problem but so far we have had no problems.

K2012 · 01/09/2022 10:58

@RedHerring24 Thank you for your reply.
I’m still considering buying it.

How often do you have to run a cleaning cycle and change the filters?

OP posts:
Welshfiver · 01/09/2022 12:03

We bought one and its been great.
The machine indicates a filter change is needed when the time comes.

RedHerring24 · 01/09/2022 12:19

@K2012 the unit displays a light when a filter needs a change to be fair but we run a full clean cycle each month.
It can be a but time consuming so ensure you have already fed baby or made a bottle beforehand.

K2012 · 01/09/2022 12:23

Okay thanks for the replies I think I’ll buy it 👍🏻

RedHerring24 · 01/09/2022 13:10

@K2012 we found John Lewis the cheapest.
Also they have the day and night version. The only difference is the volume of the beeping. If you're going to have it upstairs in a bedroom then get the night version. If it will just be in the kitchen (assuming nobody sleeps downstairs), get the day one as it's cheaper.

unicormb · 01/09/2022 13:15

It's great. Just run a cleaning cycle regularly.

K2012 · 01/09/2022 13:38

@RedHerring24 Thanks. Do you leave the machine on 24/7 or do you apply need to switch it on when you need to make milk?

OP posts:
K2012 · 01/09/2022 13:40

Sorry for the daft question.. Does it deliver a shot of 70 degrees hot water and then you mix the powder and then it adds cooler water? Doesn’t water need to be boiled to 100 degrees then cooled down to 70 before you can mix the powder?

OP posts:
MGee123 · 01/09/2022 13:48

You can replicate what it does with a kettle and save yourself the money. It's a little more faff but not much it's not something you're going to need to do for that long.

RedHerring24 · 01/09/2022 13:51

@K2012 our machine is on all the time.
Once it's all set up, fill the tank with water and it's ready to go.
Decide what size bottle you want (in oz), pop the open bottle underneath and press the start button and a shot of 70degree water will be added.
The second press of the button delivers the remaining water which is filtered.

Making the bottle will depend on the type of formula you have. For most commercial shop bought ones you can add the powder, hot shot of water then shake, then add the remaining water.
For some prescription formulas for allergies you have to add the formula to cooled water so I add all the water to the bottle first then the formula.

Hope that helps?

K2012 · 01/09/2022 17:13

@RedHerring24 Thank you yes that’s a very big help 👍🏻

@MGee123 Ho thanks for your reply. How do you do it with a kettle? My baby is having Kendamil formula, on the tin it says boil the water and wait about 30 minutes for water to cool
down to 70 degrees then add to powder. I can’t wait half an hour to make milk, when baby wants milk he wants it right now. How do you do it?

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/09/2022 17:29

I’ve used many times as a mum and a mn
I do through Checks with hot shot and check tubes for mould

as long as the proper tt filter is used not cheap £1 ones and you change machine when it says and descale etx then I have never had a problem

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/09/2022 17:31

Equally some parents don’t like and then I use my own pp using two flasks One with boiling water. One with prob boiled water cold

to make a bottle safely and right temp asap

usually 1/3 so for 4oz bottle 1 oz hot. Add powder. Swirl. Add 3oz cold water

to make a 6oz add 2oz hot. Add powder. Swirl. Add 4oz

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/09/2022 17:32

*pre boiled water

Applecrumble13 · 01/09/2022 17:33

This is my most used baby product. Saved so much time and effort!!

SunshineClouds1 · 01/09/2022 17:35

Probably the best thing I ever bought!

No2incoming · 01/09/2022 17:39

We had one with our first and it was an absolute life saver and wouldn't be without it! Definitely having it again for our second. We loved it. Just need to keep it clean and follow the instructions on the cleaning cycles and you'll be fine.

MGee123 · 01/09/2022 21:51

As a pp said, work off 1/3 boiling water out of kettle to 2/3 cold water (if over 6 months straight from tap is fine, if under 6 months and being cautious use cooled boiled water). This will be the right temperature to drink straight away (but always check of course).

So for a 6oz bottle put 2 oz boiled water into the bottle, add the scoops of formula and swirl to mix, then top up with 4oz of cold water. You can measure the cold water separately to make sure it's accurate but after a while you learn how full the bottle needs to be with the formula powder in it as well (it will be a bit over the amount of fluid you're putting in so in this example, a bit over the 6oz mark).

Ellyfinsmum · 02/09/2022 18:50

I love my prep machine. I just can’t imagine having to mess around boiling kettles and waiting for bottles to cool down with a screaming baby that needs feeding. I’ve used a prep machine with all 3 of mine and they have always been perfectly healthy. Just run a cleaning cycle on it every few weeks and use the proper filters for it.

DappledOliveGroves · 02/09/2022 18:58

Another vote for the Perfect Prep. It's brilliant. So much less faff than trying to get the kettle at the right temperature and having to take ages when you have a hungry baby. I run the cleaning cycle once every two weeks and so far so good. I know there's a more expensive machine - Baby Brezza - which I believe automatically dispenses the formula powder as well, but in general I tend to be ok remembering how many scoops I've done so probably not worth the extra £££.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 02/09/2022 19:01

Get a perfect prep - compromise on the pram if you’re trying to keep cost down but not on something you’ll use many, many times a day.

Ours lived next to the coffee machine, it was often one for me and one for baby!
