Mattress protectors for cot bed?

I have a 5 month old DD and I’m starting to get her room ready for when she’s 6m+. She has a Mamas and Papas cot which will transition into a cot bed, so the mattress is bigger than a standard cot, the size I ordered for sheets etc was Cot Bed. I ordered a Silent Nights fitted cot bed mattress protector online but noticed when it arrived that it says on it 12m+ and I’m not sure if there’s a particular reason for the age specification - I had assumed that if she’s old enough at 6 months for this cot then all sheets etc are suitable? It’s the correct size for the mattress, shouldn’t be loose or anything like that but it’s quite thick so it’s maybe not breathable enough? I guess I want to know if anyone has any recommendations for mattress protectors suitable for a 6 month old, as I obviously don’t want to use something that isn’t safe. Happy to keep this one until she’s a bit older.

We got a mattress protector from John Lewis for DS cotbed and I just checked and it doesn't state any age suitability.

Could you contact Silent Night customer service and ask why they have 12 months+ on there? Must be a reason for it but I can't think what as a mattress protector is pretty standard 🤷🏼‍♀️

If in doubt, maybe keep it for when your little one is older and get a different one for the time being that isn't specifically for a child over 12 months.

We have a Mamas and Papas cot which converts too and the Silent Night mattress protector.
I didnt notice it said 12month+ on it?!
We have been using it in DDs cot since 7months (now 9) and all has been well?
It is alot thicker and more waterproof (plastic) than other ones we have so maybe not as breathable?
Think I may do a bit of research now!

I always recommend the Hippy Chick (rubbish name I know) Tencel ones. They are pricey but soft feeling and last absolutely ages (in that they haven't at all noticeably deteriorated over the years).

@RedHerring24 I did some research today on mattress protectors and what I’ve found is that apparently it’s the waterproof plasticky material that’s not breathable enough. I never knew! I’m kinda annoyed because I wanted a waterproof one haha. I’ve ordered a non-waterproof one from George at Asda to try as it says suitable from birth in the Q&A on their website. I didn’t think it would be so hard to find them!
@AllergyOrCold Thanks for the recommendation I’ll look into that too as I need more than one in case of accidents!
