11 week old sleep gone to pot.. help

11 week old was doing 6,7 hours at night and good naps during the day. We even stayed at my sisters for the night last weekend which I was dreading as he would be out of routine etc but all perfect.

Last 3 nights have been utter hell. Not napping, waking every hour on the hour at night . Only once for a bottle the other times I've no idea why. He doesn't cry just grumbles and then takes a while to get to sleep. I've had 5 hours sleep total I think across all of those days and that's been broken. He is a bit farty so think he probably has wind but I've used infacol and burped him within an inch of his life.

I've no idea what to do. Is this just a phase I need to ride out? I know the sleep regression is coming up in about a month but I thought I would at least get a bit of sleep before that

Any words of advice from anyone is welcome....

You gotta ride it out my friend! Lots of this to come. Sleep isnt linear, they go through good and batch patches and all you can do is watch their sleep windows, be consistent with a bedtime routine and drink alllll the coffee!

Yeah I did think aa much. The nighttime sleep I can deal with but the lack of naps are absolutely killing me. I'll buy some more coffee and hope it gets better soon... even if its just for a day before we go through this again...!

My DD has started dropping her final nap and honestly, its been better than I thought because she now falls straight to sleep at 7pm rather than pissing about for two hours!

Maybe try some infacol or gripe water, could be gas waking him up?

Best piece of advice I can give you is try not to stress about things like this because nothing is permanent with children- the terrible phases change quickly and so do the good ones unfortunately! It could be teething, learning a new skill or just totally random.

Tbh it sounds like you had a fairly unusual run of good sleep - 6/7 hours of solid sleep at 11 weeks was definitely not my experience!! That being said you could just make sure you're implementing good habits like decent amounts of day sleep, on demand feeding etc which will stand you in good stead for if and when you feel ready to start implementing a bit of a routine.

Thanks all. The wind is and always has been an issue. He has a small tongue tie but apparently not bad enough to be cut. I've tried infacol but not gripe water so I'll give that a go.

It's just the process of being a baby but it's just knocked me for six a bit this time

My DD was exactly the same, small tongue tie and really windy. Docs told us to make sure she was drinking plenty of water as that would help wind. They also told us to start slowly on solids from 12 weeks, this worked wonders! Just gave her a tea to start with but was on weetabix warmed with her milk, she is now 6 months and fully on solids and hasn't been sick or had any tummy problems for ages! She also only wakes once during the night now and that's for 5 mins for a cuddle to go back to sleep! Xx

This is really interesting...! Ive heard a lot of people say starting solid early will help massively. I think this is something I need to consider. I really feel like I wind him correctly and enough but he just seems to have such problems with it

Update - the last two nights he has slept for 9 hours each night without so much as a peep 🤣

I wont be getting too comfortable with it though as tomorrow is another day in this wild ride

@Milliesmummy92 can I ask how the feeding went at 12 weeks? My little boy is 13 weeks and i just know he will be less grouchy with some sleep and i wanted to try rusks with his Aptamil Pepti as they dont contain milk. I know all advice is wait until 6 months but he stares at us eating and i just feel hes so ready to try it

Milliesmummy92 · 02/09/2022 13:34

@3yearstrying Hi, my DD took to it really well. At first we gave rusk mixed with her milk, warmed a little and just fed her using a spoon. Also gave weetabix the same

Hugasauras · 02/09/2022 14:51

Please don't add anything to bottles. It's a choking risk and a 12-week-old baby who is hungry needs more milk, or solids. Their stomachs are not ready for it and you are potentially setting them up for a lifetime of gastric issues.

Hugasauras · 02/09/2022 14:51

*not solids

Hugasauras · 02/09/2022 14:52

And tiny babies are supposed to wake up frequently. Pumping them full of stodge so they don't bother you isn't a good solution.

Lets respect each others parenting choices.

Thanks for the replies all on this. Sleep seems to be a bit better at the moment . Naps are a little sketchy still but he is sleeping well at night so I am picking my battles until it changes again!

@Hugasauras i wouldnt add anything to a bottle, i would feed, and as last resort for his sake. He has awful reflux so it was a thought and i know my instincts. However you'll be pleased to know ive been and got Carobel to add to the aptamil as its so thin its aggrevating him and hoping it will help.

@Nat888 glad to hear! Im sure theres a developmental leap at around 12 weeks also so this could be throwing him off a bit! I definitely am with you with the rubbish naps though. Although he had a 2 hour and 1.5 hour nap today so maybe our luck will change soon!
