Tv for 18 month old

My 18 month old loves the tv.
I planned on being a minimal screentime montessori-esque super parent.
But that's not how it's worked out at all.
I'm worried him watching tv everyday is going to detrimentally affect his behaviour.
Can anyone advise?
Is tv time really as bad as they say?

Yes the scientific papers show negative effects on social, behavioural and Language.
But personal outcomes vary.

I have one niece who grew up with TV on 24/7 and she is super bright, sociable and why above her years.

The science is there and individual stories vary.

Personally speaking I grew up like most kids watching TV loads and if believe it had a negative effect. No.1 waste of my time.
The hours daily wasted watching kids TV I could have been learning a new skill, new language etc. I feel awful as my oarents nwver restricted access for us. Even video games we had u limited access and although fun at the time now as an Adult makes me sad as I missed out on more productive things.

So with my children I will be balanced some TV / Media but will encourage lots of outdoors activities, hobbies and learning productive skills.

I think you summed it up there really - I think TV is fine as long as you are still doing other things and it doesnt affect behaviour. I grew up with unlimited amounts of TV but I was still booted out toe garden to play, had outdoor hobbies, still loved playing and reading. Like everything, its all about balance.

Half hour of Mr Tumble so you can sit down and recharge is fine.
