Lightweight stroller recommendations

Hi, I’m looking for a stroller for DD (12 months) and would like one that is lightweight and pretty compact as our car boot is small! I’ve been looking at the Silver Cross Clic which looked great and was just about to purchase but read a couple of reviews that said it doesn’t sit fully upright which has put me off. Does anyone have this pushchair and would you recommend it?

Ive also been looking at the mamas and papas armadillo and the airo. Any suggestions would be appreciated 😊

We have the "old" version of both M&P Airo and then also the Flip X2 which is very very similar to the Armadillo as my friend had one and it was pretty much identical aside from how it folded up. Our boy is now 3.5 and we still use one or the other on an almost daily basis. For context, we live in outer London and did not have a car until our child was about 15 months. We mostly either walk or take public transport and only use the car for longer trips.

The Airo is good because it folds up really small, can be taken as hand luggage and is great for small spaces on public transport. It's also light enough to carry upstairs on your own in it if there are no lifts (eg: the underground) but I guess that will also depend on whether you have a sensible child!! It can sit very upright. However as it's so lightweight you can't really take it on rough terrain beyond say slightly uneven ground by the river or something. It struggles on gravel or "cross country" paths at National Trust properties/similar, whereas the Flip X2 is better for that so I imagine that the Armadillo would be very similar but I wouldn't call that a "lightweight" or "small" pushchair. Yes it's obviously smaller/lighter than the larger Bugaboos/iCandy/Uppababy etc but it is more suitable as a main pushchair in my opinion but if you already have a "main" pushchair and are looking for something small/lightweight that can also be taken as hand luggage on planes then buy the Airo.

Also, M&P have "sales" so frequently where they'd have the same product at half price then they'd put it back up to full price and then lower it again in their next sale. It's def worth price watching for a while if you're not in a rush to make sure you're not paying too much.

I love this youtube channel for stroller reviews.

You could also look at umbrella folds like Joie Nitro, Silver Cross Zest.

Bugaboo Bee is a good smaller full-feature buggy (similar to Armadillo) as well, and Cybex and Maxi Cosi and Joie have some good models in this class.

I'd defo recommend this one...

ergobaby.co.uk/strollers/metro-stroller/metro-plus

I initially bought it for our holiday but I use it everyday now. It lays completely flat unlike the yo-yo and folds down so small. It can fit in the overhead compartment on an aeroplane and you can buy a backpack for it to go in.

It also has a little secret compartment in the footrest which can unfold and clip to the main seat to make the seat a cotbed suitable for a newborn.

I have a bugaboo which was my main buggy for both my babies but I'm toying with the idea of selling it and just keeping the Ergobaby Metro. I could have another baby and have the newborn in it from day one and it is so easy and light to manoeuvre.

I also love being able to fit it into the footwell of the car if I need all the boot space. Sometimes I put it in the front passenger footwell, or if all 4 of us are in the car I can fit it in the back passenger footwell and my little boy rests his feet on it (he is in a fully fitted car seat).

I love its versatility and recommend it at every opportunity!

My only concern is that I use it so much that it might not last as long as a proper big buggy but we are nearly 1 year in and it is still in top working order.

I hope this helps!

Thanks all for your helpful reviews! I ended up going for for the Joie Mytrax as we do enjoy walking quite a bit so felt that it had better wheels for rockier areas whilst still folding down to quite a small size. It’s not arrived yet so fingers crossed we like it!

I liked the mytrax a lot. I think you'll like the fold 🙂
