What’s normal poo for a breast fed 1 year old?

I have a 13 month old who still breast feeds quite a lot as well as eating a normally decent but sometimes variable amount of solids. His poos are still really runny and “korma” like like they were when he was ebf. Is this normal? Could it be a dairy intolerance? He has these runny poos 3-5 times a day and never has a solid poo.

It depends on how much milk versus solids that he’s having. I’d say if it’s mostly milk then yes that’s normal

BM does have quite a laxative effect and it's quite normal for BFing Toddlers to feed often.

I guess that of the runny poos aren't causing him any problems then it's fine Wink

DDs went solid and adult like pretty much as soon as she started solids. However, she had really bad D&V for a week at 2.5 years and they return to korma style then as she was only really digesting breastmilk.

If your worried its not normal and he is eating a good amount of solids then contact the GP.

One thing you could try is reducing his feeds. Easier said than done I know but we had some success with DH getting them up in the morning and giving them a good breakfast.

If you have a DP/DH you could send them out together for a few hours at the weekend, maybe swimming and a quick lunch or the park, library and a cafe?

Mine were on just two feeds in theday at 1 year except second born also fed through the night!

First born who slept through the night so had hardly any breastmilk had "toddler diarrhoea" till she was over 2 (made potty training more challenging!), thus continued even after she dropped to 1 breastfeed a day but did resolve well before she stopped breastfeeding at 3.5.

Second born who had loads of breastmilk through the night has had solid poop since she started eating a good amount of food at 10 months.

I've ebf 3 past this point (youngest is 18m).

It could be normal but it does sound like a lot of poo.

I'm pretty certain my ds2 had lactose intolerance until he was about 2.5 (it runs in our family) and he would puke/be grouchy/have different poo if he had high lactose food.

What happens if you cut dairy from what they eat? - I know you're still bf so you could cut it out for a couple of weeks too. That's probably the easiest way to tell

Thanks everyone.
I forgot to say that I’m one week in to trialling him on a dairy free diet (me as well) but I haven’t really noticed any difference in the poos yet so questioning whether it really is dairy intolerance or just the laxative effect of my milk!
id stopped bf my other one by this point but he drank gallons of cows milk and had normal poo 🤷‍♀️
