Sudden food refusal at nursery

DD 2 has been in nursery for a year.

At home, we have noticed a sudden 'stranger danger' - gets upset if children come near her at the playground and doesn't want to play, gets upset if we have visitors or even if we see neighbours in the street.

This week, my normally human dustbin of a toddler has refused every single meal at nursery. She isn't upset, poorly or unhappy and fine to go and play. She also refuses water.

At home, she has eaten her dinner and breakfast as normal. Drinks fine, still has the occasional breastfeed.

She has also stopped having a snack both on the way to nursery and on the way home.

The nursery have been great in trying to encourage her without pushing - sitting her on a lap or away from the other children with some toast or a yoghurt. They say nothing has happened with other children or around mealtimes and are as stumped as we are. She has had two settling play sessions in the next room up but they have gone swimmingly and she has enjoyed them.

The only behaviour they have noticed is some occasional sensitivity to loud children - she will go and seek comfort from a nursery worker or go and play away from the louder children.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? I have been collecting her early this week as I hate the idea of her being hungry or thirsty but I cant do that next week.

Doesn't appear to be teething or under the weather.
