TV - 6 month old

Hi all,
My almost 6 month old loves story books and I’m wondering if Cbeebies bedtime story is an ok exception to the “No TV for babies” rule. The images are static and he really seems to love it. I’m curious as to whether I should let him watch or turn his back to the telly so we can just listen together.

He watched quite a lot of Wimbledon with my mum and football with his dad so maybe I’m being a bit strict?

Thanks

personally not ever watched this with my DC just do stories in their room with them before bed but to answer your questions… i don’t think turning them round will do much for long! But some TVs do have the option to switch the screen off but still have sound so that could be an idea.

it really is best to avoid TV as much as possible at such a young age. Also worth pointing out that the light from the screen can affect their sleep.

Honestly I would just do whatever you feel is right. Everyone has a different view on this and I think anything in moderation is fine. I am guilty of using baby sensory YouTube videos to occupy my 7 month old for short periods during the day and don't think it is doing him any harm.

We always watch Night Garden and bedtime story after bath, then real stories in bed and lights out at 7:15. I really can’t be doing with people saying it’s harmful, it’s just part of DS (11 months) wind down routine at bedtime. If you feel comfortable watching your LO watch bedtime stories on CBeebies then do it. Nice to be able to make your own rules sometimes.

Do whatever you want. Mine watched In the Night Garden in the playpen from around six months so I could get dinner ready (without losing my mind).

It's up to you really - I have 1:1 time with DD (9 months) after dinner in her room where the TV is off completely, the curtains are closed and the only light is a dimmable 'mood light' so it's a calm, relaxing atmosphere. The blue light from TV screens can impact melatonin production that can impact sleep quality in children (I'm not an expert but work with paediatricians and have read this in their reports).
I usually put Tiny Pop on after I've given DD breakfast so she can watch it and play with her toys in the living room while I have my own breakfast and get ready for work. DH does the same while he gets dinner ready before I get home from work - those are the only times we put the TV on for her really though.

Thanks for your replies. I meant in the daytime rather than before bed as we have a bedtime routine sorted and he sleeps through the night. He just loves listening to stories so o figured some static pictures accompanying that couldn’t be that harmful surely
