A typical meal for my DD goes like,

  • Aptamil porridge (tried other porridges but she doesn’t like the textures of them!) for breakfast along with a fruit
  • Some type of frozen food for lunch. Something like fish fingers with breadsticks. A few southern fried chicken bites alongside a slice of toast etc
  • Dinner is always something cooked. So spag bol, chicken and spaghetti, lasagna etc

My daughter is VERY specific. She doesn’t like potatoes, rice, spaghetti, beans, eggs. The list can literally go on and even though I do try her with these things here and there, she’s not interested. She loves fruit and bread and that’s really it. I know people say to give them a bit of what you eat but tbh I hardly eat dinner as I’m not hungry for it.

If anyone has a picky DC or has any food suggestions or tips then please comment below! I’ll be happy to try most things

Which bit are you struggling with? If its working, carry on?

brightnesses · 24/08/2022 17:52

I’m asking for more food ideas as she’s starting to get bored of the same things. I need more inspo for breakfast and dinner if anything.

She isn’t interested in some foods due to the texture but at the same time she’s getting tired of the rotation of eating the same things for dinner. The meals she would get excited about, she now looks at and pushes the bowl away

Home made pizza.

If you eat with her and eat the same thing she may get more interested.
You can do avocado, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, carrots. A bit mashed up and a bit in slices.
Peas.
Hamburgers, sausages, lentils.
I would rather give bread and cheese or breadsticks and hummus than processed frozen food tbh.

ShirleyPhallus · 24/08/2022 18:00

I’d just keep trying tbh, at 15 months her tastes will change a lot and just because she doesn’t like something one day she might like it another

id offer picky bits and give her something new and something familiar on each plate

I'm not sure I'd fancy fish fingers with breadsticks or fried chicken bites with toast, feels a bit dry to me.

If she's having a proper meal at teatime, then what about something like soup or a sandwich at lunch time?

You see the thing is, I don’t eat any food like this. I don’t like hummas or anything too so I never think to introduce those foods to her. Thank you

@RockingMyFiftiesNot you’re an adult, she’s 15 months old. She loves dry food. She’d eat toast with no butter if she could. Things like soups and sandwiches, she doesn’t enjoy at all

I found my lovely little lunchbox very helpful at that stage.

Caspianberg · 24/08/2022 18:25

My 2 year old has eaten similar the last year

Breakfast:
porridge ( regular oats) with apple purée
greek yogurt with berries and granola
toast with scrambled egg/ avocado

lunch:
sandwich/ toastie with cream cheese/avocado/ houmous.
cheese/ raw veg/ fruit alongside.

dinner:
cooked meal.

Some days it’s something like pancakes for breakfast or pasta for lunch, but generally it’s the above

coffeetofunction · 24/08/2022 18:38

Would she eat granola or fruit and yoghurt?
Homemade fruit flapjack

Lunch she could have wraps? Olives, meat and bread? Mac and cheese? Pesto bread or pasta.

Cauliflower cheese
Halloumi
Feta cheese and salad

Thank you all!

I do have IG so will look at Solid Starts and will also look at lovely little lunchbox.

@Caspianberg that’s perfect thank you so much! I can see my DD trying some of those things so I’ll try and introduce a few things mentioned.

@coffeetofunction I couldn’t see her eating plain yoghurt or granola but it’s worth a try! Thank you for the other suggestions you’ve given too

She is at an age where you need to just keep trying some foods, my 3 year old never liked anything in a rich tomato sauce eg beans etc until recently, I always put a small spoonful on her plate and the rest on my 16mo plate. If she doesn't eat it, it's fine. But it's always good to just keep trying small amounts

Skiingwithgin · 24/08/2022 19:41

Agree keep re trying the things she doesn’t like. My little one (now 2) would never entertain beans but now loves them, wouldn’t entertain chilli but now it’s her favourite. Keep persevering and trying her with things.

lunch we often do ham wraps, cheese spread wraps, boiled eggs, poached eggs, beans on toast, avo on toast. But I find it the hardest, least successful meal!

i also recommend eating with her, makes SO much difference for mine, you don’t need to do a big portion for you!

also recoupment what mummy makes books for family idea, great book we used to wean from but still do about 15 of the meals regularly x

Sandcastlesinthesky · 24/08/2022 19:52

My 20 month old is very picky unfortunately after starting out eating most things. She will eat scrambled egg and variations of that like frittata with cheese and spinach. I make little batches of sauces for her that she will eat with pasta or cous cous. Her favourites are creamy broccoli and chicken sauce and a tomato, chicken and spinach one. I made some healthy breakfast muffins for her with bananas and blueberries yesterday. She wasn’t keen but apparently you should offer something ten times to encourage them to try it. There’s various toddler food Instagram accounts that might give you some ideas

Doje · 24/08/2022 19:57

Just keep a bunch of leftovers in the fridge for her lunches.

I always had leftover quiche, potatoes, fish pie, pasta, chicken, etc. Whatever you have for dinner, cook a bit extra. That way she can try lots of little bits. You can always add cucumber sticks and / or roasted veggies if you need. DSs always loved sweet potato fries.

They also loved sweetcorn fritters - small tin of sweetcorn, 1 egg, spoon of flour, whizzed up then fried. Great hot or cold.

brightnesses · 25/08/2022 15:18

Thank you all!

I did a quick Tesco shop which should be coming today full of things mentioned. I also looked at some recipes online and order ingredients for that too. I’m not really great at cooking so I’m literally starting from only knowing the basics.

Thanks to those who have mentioned trying things with DD here and there. Sometimes when she doesn’t like something I think I must have failed her for her to just be eating the same thing again and again:(
