What to put 1 yr old in at night

Hi ladies,

Can I ask for your advice/opinions on whats best to put my 1yo in at night? She sleeps in a cot and we did use sleeping bags, but over summer shes just been in her pj's or sleepsuit as its been warm at night where we are. We also had to stop using the sleeping bags because as she started to travel around the cot in her sleep she would get twisted up in it, so I am reluctant to go back to them, but as the weather turns i obviously dont want her to be cold. I think its too soon for a normal duvet, are there any alternatives i dont know about? FTM here so probably quite likely, would love any advice on what you do or opinions.

Thank you!

I'd probably persist with the sleeping bag to be honest as anything else she's likely to throw off unintentionally and you will be forever getting up to go and replace it when she gets cold?! Our 1 year old launches herself all around the cot but gets on okay with a sleeping bag - she seems to sort herself out when she gets tangled 99% of the time.

Why do you want to avoid a duvet? I simply ask out of curiosity as my daughter is almost one and has been in sleeping bags since she outgrew her Moses basket. Want to give her a duvet and pillow and have tried a couple of times but she just cries until she's back in her bag 🫣😄

These worked as a good alternative to a sleeping bag for us :

@NoHeavenNoMore she moves too much. Shes literally from lengthways at the top of the bed to in a corner at the bottom, to sticking her arm out between the railings, I cant see a duvet being successful until she's a bit more peaceful 😂

@Babyccino11 @Sunshinegirl82 thank you for those links, they look spot on!

Another recommendation for the sleeping bags with feet. We were exactly the same and DC1 didn't have a duvet until well past 2 as he rolled around so much. Added bonus is, on lazy mornings you can do a quick zip up from the bottom for a nappy charge and they can keep the sleeping bag on until you get them dressed. Same @with bedtimes. We could do bottle and sleeping bag on downstairs, then he could walk himself upstairs ready for a story and cuddles and straight into the cot.

I also didn't bother with pj's just did popper vests (long sleeved in the winter) under the sleeping bag and then shoved on leggings if it was chilly in the morning until they got dressed.

Slumbersac can come up big (as I discovered!) so check the size chart before you order if you go with them.

@Scotti84 okay I understand, my daughter is the same. I was hoping a duvet may keep her still but I think we're a while off just yet! Good luck 😄
