Naps/sleep question

My baby boy is almost 10 weeks. Sleeps ok ..most nights.. he wakes up only twice for a bottle and occasionally wants to stay awake but mostly he is back down within about 30 minutes. Does about 5hrs then 5 hrs - or has done the last week or so. Not every night but more than not

Sounds amazing and people are telling me I'm very lucky which I don't doubt...!

My problem though is day time naps.. he totally resists them, shows no signs he is tired and I always feel I'm having to force them... a lot...

I'm sure that's normal as their brains arent quite up to speed with this sleep thing..? Maybe.. if I left him he would totally go hours and hours happily.

One time his dad had him while I caught up on sleep and I came down and he was awake... his dad said he had been up 5 hrs ( his dad doesnt even try to get him to nap unless he cries.. his dad doesnt often have him for long periods) He was absolutely fine but went from 0- totally fucking losing it in about 1 minute so obviously I try to avoid that by trying to get his naps in.

Anyways... my question.. when do babies get a bit better at their bodies telling them they are tired/when will he start giving me some hints?

When he does nap it's on me at the moment. I've just won the crib at night time battle so I'll pick the putting down for a nap battle at a later date. .

Mine started to develop a nap routine at about 3 or 4 months. It might help to create a pre-nap routine. Whatever you decide to do, try to do it consistently at every nap – that’s how it will become routine for him, and consequently, that’s how it will begin to help him settle down and nap when he’s supposed to.

I think they’re generally a bit shit at this age. You’d be surprised how quickly they need a nap after they wake. Probably like 45 minutes. PP advise is good about a nap routine, even just singing the same lullaby or playing the same piece of relaxing music on Spotify.
I think to answer your question: at about 16 weeks.

My LO is 5 months. Only just got into a proper routine at 4 months. Sleeps through and down at 7:30. Bath, bottle and bed. I feel this definitely helped us.

Although she's now coming up for 6 months and has started wanting that during the night feed again which means she's almost ready for weaning that's a whole other kettle of fish 🤣🤣 xx

I’d suggest following wake windows if you don’t already. 10 week olds tend to need to nap every 45mins -1.30 max I would say. You need to include any winding down time for him to sleep in the wake window (so if he needs 20 minutes to settle that should be included in his wake window) He might be overtired hence not seeming sleepy. I’ve followed wake windows with my daughter and they have been bang on for me (not suggesting that is the case for everyone but worth a try??)

Tha ks all -great advice. I have a routine for bedtime but not a nap routine as such. Glad to know it isn't usually quite yet and I'm just shit at noticing/ failing some how.
