Can teething make a baby smile less?

Six month old has been really upset and not herself the last few days. She isn't looking at us as much, smiling etc. I'm really worried about her but I did notice a sharp gum and wondered if it could be teething that's causing her to withdraw like this? Doctor didn't seem worried but basically only seemed to check for infection. I know autism can't be diagnosed at this age but I can't help my mind worrying over that. Of course she is loved either way but it would be devastating to see her lose skills. She is normally such a social, smiling baby with a beaming smile for everyone, and I feel like I've lost her!

Oh, I just read this and then realised you'd commented on another post.

My LO is doing the same and it's really stressing me out. He had lost babbling which has come back the last couple of days and now he completely ignores us and gives us half as much smiles/laughs/eye contact as last week 😞

I didn't want to read and run as I remember in my daughters first year thinking MANY times 'she's lost x, y and z skill' etc, but I think in hindsight she had just shifted her focus to learning another skill as they can only do/learn so many things at once, hence the whole 'walking or talking' saying! She's now approaching four and as far as we can tell is totally neurotypical x

Not sure if any help OP, but took little one to the dr this afternoon - he's got blocked ears (both) with hard wax which is why he isn't responding/smiling/laughing - can't hear us, or the loud bashes the dr was doing on the table!

Think back to when you got your wisdom teeth, you probably didnt feel like smiling then either.

Babys change skill focus all the time depending on what they are currently developing, its totally normal.
