telling kids school starts tomorrow so they start sleeping early again?whats your opinion? to tell your 11 year old who goes to habitually goes to sleep late and wake up late, that school starts tomorrow, when infact it starts in August 17th. have told them that you guys have to sleep by 10am tonight as school is about to start next week, but they still sleep 'early' ~2330 after my insistence , opinion?

Your timings make no sense.
Even if they did - ridiculous idea - just parent your kids 🤷‍♀️

Turn off the TV and the WiFi?
Don't tell them it's school tomorrow as it's not and doing stuff like that undermines your own authority.
If they don't sleep they'll be tired when they go back to school. Natural consequences..

Like saying ' the man will tell you off' when you are in the supermarket? Confused

Just tell them the actual truth.
Behave yourself.
Go to bed, it's bedtime.
It's morning, we are going out in half an hour. Get up, get dressed and have your breakfast.

Well my kids only stay up an extra half hour in the holidays. I don't want them getting into bad habits. So the youngest has been going to bed at 9 instead of 8 30. Tonight he will go at 8 45 and then he will be ready for usual bedtime by Wednesday.

I don't believe in lying to any kids but certainly not to an 11year old.

NoSquirrels · 15/08/2022 12:36

Doesn’t your 11 year old know when school starts?

Im not sure why you need the lie? And it’ll only work for tonight - just all seems a bit unnecessary.

Say ‘Kids, it’s back to school this week so we need to get back into good sleep habits. Bedtime is at X.’

Preeeettyprettygood · 15/08/2022 12:43

And what do you plan to do when they realise if he hasn't already, that it's not a school day, and then how do you plan for this to work considering they won't be back at school till the 17th?

What a ridiculous idea haha

Yes, this!
At 11 my kids knew perfectly well when school started and if not were capable of googling.
They also know that I make the rules so if i tell them they need to start going to bed earlier to get in to a good routine for the new term, well they might complain but they would do as they were told.

How late has your 11 year old been going to sleep during the summer? We're flexible with summer bedtimes but not to the point that 11.30pm would count as "early" for an 11 year old!

You need to drag him out of bed at a reasonable time in the morning the next few days, so that he's tired enough to sleep early. And then enforce a reasonable bedtime.

Mumsfan · 15/08/2022 15:27

they just contacted their friends, didnt work!, dont worry they will be in bed by 10pm tonight!

So now youve been caught in a lie by your kids. Do you lie to them a lot?

user73783 · 15/08/2022 16:02

Wtf? Be the parent and tell them to go to bed, do they really not do as they're told? At 11?

None is worried - everyone is just astounded at your idiocy 🤷‍♀️
