Formula making help

My one month old is combi fed but mainly formula. We use ready made bottles but it's becoming too expensive. I want to try her on powdered formula but her feedings are so unpredictable I'm looking for safe alternative ways (if there are any!) than making fresh every time and waiting to cool.

I don't want to use the perfect prep due to the safety of it being questioned a lot.

I have seen people say they mimic the prep with boiling water to the powder and then add cooled boiled water to make to right temp. Is this safe? And if so, how much hot water to cool water? She's on 4oz at the moment.

You can keep formula in the fridge for 24 hours (NHS website).

So, make the bottles in the morning with boiling water (leave it to cool in the kettle for 10 mins).

Put them in the fridge straight away (at the back where it’s coldest).

When you’re ready to feed, take one out, take the lid off, microwave for a few seconds so it’s lukewarm. Shake to get rid of hotspots, test the temperature.

Make some more before you go to bed.

I bought a very good flask and fill it with boiling water at the start of the day then refill it again before I go to bed.I used a thermometer to check and this keeps the water at 75 degrees or above. I also keep a bottle of cooled boiled water in fridge.

I add the powder to the bottle first and put it on my kitchen scales so I can measure the amount of water going in. Then fill half the amount of water from my hot flask, mix then add half the amount of water from the fridge water.

The first few times I did it this way it seemed like a complicated process but honestly it's been great for getting bottles made quickly on demand.

I would do one ounce of boiling water and four scoops of formula in the bottle, shake really well, then add three ounces of cold, boiled water that you've measured using another bottle (don't just top up to the four ounce mark as it won't have the correct amount of water)
Or, as the pp said, you could premake a couple of bottles, make them with boiling water and cool them down really quickly in lots of cold water/ice, then store in the coldest part of the fridge.

You can make and store in fridge at home for 24 hrs. Take out and stand in hot water to warm

out and about I would just take a flask. It’s fine for 2 hours once made so make one about 90 mins after last feed and it will have time to cool
