Is there any safe padded cot bumper?

We the title says it all really 🙈.

Is there any Padded cot bumper that is safe? My baby wakes herself up by (accidentally) banging her head on the side of her cot when she's asleep. I'm guessing thr answer is no, but thought I'd ask.. just in case.

No but I used the Airwrap one when my DD was in a cot. She kept bumping her head and her dummies would fall out of the cot. It worked well to help with both.

No. Because of the risk of positional asphyxiation. It's why products like a snuz pod have mesh sides. Nothing that has padding would be breathable.

My baby seems to move out the way when theres lack of air .. eg cuddles, sleeping, teddys..

@mummy2903
survivorship bias is a dangerous thing. Always follow the safe sleep advice from the lullaby trust, that the babies sleep space should be entirely clear. It isn't just a risk for babies who have not mastered neck control.

Babies sleeping with things that they could push their face against can increase "rebreathing" — when they breathe in their own exhaled air — particularly if the baby is sleeping on a soft mattress or with bedding, stuffed toys, or a pillow near their face. As the baby rebreathes exhaled air, the oxygen level in the body drops and the level of carbon dioxide rises.

current scientific findings suggest babies who die from SIDS may have a problem with the part of the brain that helps control breathing and waking during sleep.

So if baby is breathing stale air because of the extra furnishings/toys in their cot, and not getting enough oxygen, the brain should trigger the baby to wake up and cry to get more oxygen. If the brain is not picking up this signal, oxygen levels will fall and carbon dioxide levels will rise. And then......

There is zero reason to gamble on this.

I used the airwrap which I considered safe but it was 10 years ago and not sure if that has changed. It also went considerably below the mattress so baby couldn't get under it.

Madwife123 · 14/08/2022 23:53

Airwrap also doesn’t mean SIDS standards so the answer would be no, there is no safe cot bumper.

OP please ignore suggestions for an air wrap, if you’re really concerned about your little one bumping their head, you could swap them over to a travel cot. That is the only safe alternative, that or bedsharing.

if it makes you feel better my girl used to whack her head, she’d wake up with like bumps and bruises from it… might not be nice but it’s a lot nicer than getting caught in a cot bumper and getting strangled
