Important life advice for child?

We live in a basement flat, currently staying at my parents house. Very hot here so windows upstairs open. I said to our 6YO "You know not to lean out of the windows upstairs, don't you?" Her response was "no, why not? You've never said that."

Now I'm worried I've missed telling my children other important safety/ life advice!!

Please add any you can think of 😬 TIA.

...but worrying that your 6yr old couldn't work out not to lean out an upstairs window for themselves!

Not quite the same, but my toddler didn't realise that candles were hot til she tried to grab the ones on her birthday cake 🙃

I'm so sorry my comment was super bitchy, I was typing without thinking and am in a foul mood, please ignore me. Completely reasonable that a young child who's grown up in a flat wouldn't know not to lean. They'd know not to jump! I'm a grump, I'm sorry.

@MolliciousIntent that was so gracious, hope your day gets better 🙂

I realised I hadn’t taught my dc about 999 and when/how to use it and also how not to do prank calls etc. I think in the 80s/90s kids saw more public general info videos about this sort of thing.

I've shown mine how to get into the emergency calls but on my phone without needing Face ID.
Also our address
I let them tell me which way to walk on the way home and mix up routes so I know they know the way.

One non-obvious thing is to teach them that if they ever need to pull someone out of water (say if a friend fell in a lake/river or something) they should lay on their front to do it and not try to pull them out while stood up as it's very easy to topple in if the rescuee starts getting pulled away by the current so they lose their footing. And other water safety tips too, don't struggle, lay on back etc.

They need to know an emergency phone number, your mobile number or land line. They also need to know your address, including number of the house, you’d be surprised how many kids only know their post code.
And finally, your name. Lots of little kids only know their parents as mum and dad, not their first name.

@MolliciousIntent That was a lovely message, don't worry one bit, I really hope your day has improved. This heat is driving me crazy 😩.
