Toddler woke up a week ago with a stammer

Our youngest (DD 2) just developed a stammer literally over night last week. Dr Google says this is actually very common. It's got noticeably worse each day and I have started to see flashes of frustration when she can't get her next word out.

Has anyone else been through this? How did it work out? Should we be trying to access speech therapy now or watch and wait for a bit?

Well I would have had her to a GP a week ago, not asking google and mumsnt Hmm

Bloody hell Zero it's a stammer not plague. The GP would be totally inappropriate.

OP my little boy (2.5) developed a stammer overnight a few months back. It's worn off now. And maybe only lasted 2-3 weeks really. Nursery said it's very common at this age as their brains are in overdrive and sometimes they can't get the words out. Don't worry about it unless it lasts a really long time.

A lot of children develop a stammer at that age, most grow out of it and regain their fluency but some will continue to stammer. If it persists ask for a referral to speech and language therapy, they work with really young children

DD had this at several points when she had a big vocabulary leap. It was like her brain was working faster than her mouth and confusing her.

We would encourage her to slow down, think about what she wanted to say then say it.

It wore off after a few weeks each time and she's now 8, never stops talking and doesn't stammer.

Keep an eye on it but try not to worry too much.
