My LO absolutely HATES having her face and hands wiped after eating! She will literally scream the house down even when I get the wipe out the packet. Having face washed in the bath though is absolutely fine! Any tips please as we always end breakfast, lunch and dinner in tears!

Mine was the same, over in seconds so just crack on with it 🤷🏻‍♀️ a lot of them seem to hate it, but it won't do them harm in the long run.

Marsupilamy · 13/08/2022 00:34

Maybe use a cloth with warm water instead? Or warm up the wipea

ladydimitrescu · 13/08/2022 00:34

Or try a flannel if she doesn't mind having it done in the bath? Maybe it's the wipes

Don't use wipes then. Fill a bowl with lukewarm water and use a soft facecloth

RosiePosie80 · 13/08/2022 00:52

Use a facecloth. Wipes can be sore.

MotherOfDragon20 · 13/08/2022 00:57

What age? Mines is a bit like that, I just quickly transfer her to the sink. Let her stand on a chair (depending on age) and let her play with the water for a minute, that will sort the hands and you clean her face with a cloth while she plays.

abovedecknotbelow · 13/08/2022 00:59

Mine were like that too but one of life's necessities, like teeth. Seconds and it's over.

Flannel, warm water under the tap, wring out, wipe face. They are more effective than wipes so it is quicker and easier. Also less waste, and cheap!

KosherDill · 13/08/2022 11:06

Wipes are so wasteful and bad for the environment.

They also feel cold and clammy. A soft cloth and warm water are a kinder option.

Leafy3 · 13/08/2022 11:13

Standard 😁

On amazon you can buy bamboo flannels for babies and honestly, they're the softest things ever, even after washing!

Pashazade · 13/08/2022 11:27

Depending on the wipes they can taste vile if you're cleaning her mouth off. I have vivid memories of being "cleaned" with a wet wipe and it being horrible. Like when you forget you've recently removed nail varnish and lick a finger.
Made sure I always used proper face wipes, so no nasty taste or just a wet cloth with my dc.

TiredEyes1991 · 13/08/2022 11:33

use flannels or reusable wipes. Always make sure they’re warm. Give your LO their own cloth to ‘clean’ with and make it a bit of a game, make funny noises and faces when wiping them

i don’t think any of us would like it if someone came along with a wet wipe or a cold flannel and rubbed it all over our face either

sunglassesonthetable · 13/08/2022 16:16

Standard. Use a warm cloth. Do it quickly. And then straight out of the high chair all at once so there's something new to focus on.

You try it! Any cut, any bit in the mouth or eye, it stings, tastes and smells disgusting!

I used to be a field sales rep many years ago, would have to eat my sandwiches on the fly between appointments. Used to wipe my mouth and hands after to be sure no crumbs or mayo clinging with 'Wet Wipes' - they'd not long been invented so you can tell how long ago that was!
Well one time I was sat in Reception at the firm and had an itchy eye. Had not long started using contact lenses, so did a quick prod to check was in situ still figuring my left hand was pretty clean having just wiped it with the Wet Wipe in the car. Only to discover the stuff in it stings like hell. I carefully mopped the eye with a bit of tissue from my handbag and awaited the customer for our meeting. During the meeting he kept looking at me oddly. Very oddly. So I had to say was their something wrong and he said well yes I think something is wrong with your eye - which was still itchy and watering but I'd tried not to touch it, and had been mopping with the tissue.

Eye was almost red raw and that was down to what was in the wipes. Took 2 days to recover.

Have always used flannels and water for babies and ever since. Far, far kinder.

As she's frightened it'll hurt, make a game of it, pick coloured wipes and flannels to use so they look different, use with warm not hot water and wring out. Hold up and hide behind it, make it a game , make faces over the top, Hide your hand under it, then let your hand appear. Then hide her mucky hand and then gently caress the food off with the flannel, and follow with a noisy kiss. Repeat with other hand and face.

  • there not their

Flannels and warm water then Chuck in the washing machine. No need for wipes at home and a wash cloth does a much better job anyway.

Porridgeaddiction · 13/08/2022 19:14

For my DD I just started to turn it into a game. I make funny noises and tickle her face with the wipe and then when she's giggling I give her a bit of a wipe.

If her hands are really messy sometimes I'll just take her to the sink and run them under the tap. She doesn't mind that
