One year olds mole? Normal?

Since my son was 7 months old he has had his mole on his knee. I didn’t know they could get these at that age. My gp are useless I brought it up but they said oh freckles appear don’t worry without looking. Does this mole look normal for a one year old? My husbands had pre cancerous moles in the past and melanoma runs in his family so that’s why it’s at the forefront of my mind.

Appreciate any replies.

No idea about healthy moles but babies can be born with moles - I've got lots and my daughter has a few.

Where on Earth have you got the idea from that babies can't have moles?

DS has quite a large one (somewhere the sun doesn’t see) and the one in the photo looks exactly the same as one I have on my shoulders (mines a little darker) and I don’t really have moles.

If you would have read the whole post I said about the strong melanoma gene that runs in my husbands family. If that’s all you got to say why bother even writing a comment. Surely you have more important things to do then to leave a comment like that on a post. 🙄

Thank you for all of your comments :) the helpful ones anyway. I appreciate it. Just a worry as my husband has such a strong melanoma gene so due to the size of it made me worry so I appreciate it 😊

You are obviously worried and no-one on here is a dermatologist (I think).

Maybe book an appointment and see one - it takes two minutes and they will look at the mole with a special magnifying glass (my relative is a dermatologist and has checked DSs mole as - obviously - it grew as he did and it’s rather large now). chances are that’s all it will take.

When he is older some pharmacies have walk in mole clinics (not sure how good they are).

take photos alongside a 5p for scale over time and see the changes - yes it will most likely grow as he does but at least you can see any colour and shape changes.

My friend has a family history of skin cancer - she has a lot of moles and has to check them regularly. She has to make sure they aren’t changing colour, size, edges changing, bleeding etc and if worries she goes to the doctor.

Thank you @KittenKong i will try and get him a dermatologist but where I am you need a referral and my gp are beyond useless and just say don’t worry see how it goes etc they have 2 star ratings online so they are notorious for being crap so I will try. Thank you for your reply.

Our doctor referred us to a clinic. If you say you are concerned and that there is a history in the family then they should really get onto it. I’m not sure how much private would costs.
