Tips for giving meds

Baby has first jabs tomorrow. I'm so nervous :( I'm crying already thinking about it!

My question is giving calpol for fever. When I've tried to give meds before- well, infacol - he cries, gags, chokes and just spits it back up. Doesn't seem to swallow ever I put it into the side of his cheek rather than the back of the tongue but any tips on how I should be giving it

I'm really sorry if this sounds so stupid. I've just no idea how I should be giving him it

Use an empty teat - put the medicine in and baby should suckle it down . I used to do that with my sons

Also try be as calm as possible, baby's pick up on stress , so you need to be calm for them ... good luck OP I have ours soon

You can also get dummies you can preload with medicine. I’ve got a dentinox one and it’s good so if your baby takes a dummy then try that.

What worked for me was to syringe into their mouth and then blow in their face - then they swallow as almost a reflex.

If he takes a dummy, we used to squirt a little bit in DDs mouth, put the dummy in so she sucks, then squirt a bit more, repeat etc.

Thanks all - we used a teet then tried a dummy which worked... just! He has never been a fan of them but will take it for about 10 minutes so enough time.

All fine - he was feverish and sleepy after them but calpol and cuddles and the next day was back to himself
