My little girl has her first jabs today and not sure what to expect after... I'm dreading the first lot as I've heard are not pleasant.

Any tips??? 🙈🤣

I heard they were terrible too but ours were fine. She cried a bit afterwards but I just fed her straight away and gave her some calpol. Didn't notice anything different after them really. Good luck!

K2012 · 09/08/2022 10:37

I was also very nervous when my baby had his first jab last month, he cried a lot straight after but then fell asleep and we went home. Gave him Calpol for 24 hours as advised by the nurse and he didn’t have any side effects at all.

HannahTheBanana · 09/08/2022 10:41

I was just like you! Then all was good and she only slept for a little bit longer and was generally more sleepy for a day or two! Try not to worry :)

My baby has her 2nd vaccinations today, not looking forward to them to be honest. 1st ones she screamed for a couple of minutes after them, but was soon forgotten about, broke my heart though. She developed a fever which went on for a couple of days, she seemed fine in herself and happy and smiley as normal it was just me freaking out!
Really hoping she doesn't get a fever again 😞

Allthecoloursoftherainbow · 09/08/2022 12:25

Just be prepared for a scream like you've never heard before. It's heartbreaking but over extremely quickly, and they'll likely sleep a lot afterwards. Give calpol. I'm sure it's worse for the parent than the baby tbh. It'll all be fine :)

Hyggeandhugs · 09/08/2022 12:34

It's totally heartbreaking, but it's also sort of amazing to see how they absolutely do look to you for comfort and safety. If you ever doubted that they think of you as their number one person, this will fix that! Took Calpol with me to the appointment to give the first dose there and kept her as cool as I could when we got home (it was peak heatwave). She had a fever that evening for about an hour and then she was back to herself. Good luck to you and little one Smile

emilylouisee · 09/08/2022 16:05

Just had them! Wasn't as bad as expected, took the calpol with me and gave it to her just before she had them.

The cry was heartbreaking but she seems back to herself already and all forgotten!

So happy it went well 🥳

Hi everyone, my baby had her first set of jabs when she was 2 months old as normal. Her second lot were then due and
she become very poorly and couldn’t have them, the second time around it was due on Christmas Eve and so selfishly because she was so unwell after the first ones I decided to postpone because I didn’t want her to spend her first Christmas sobbing her heart out because she’s unwell with a massive temperature etc again. Since then she was sent another appointment and we moved home due to circumstances and we couldn’t take her to her old surgery due to distance, and then it’s taken months to swap surgery’s so finally now she’s settled not poorly in a new surgery so now I’m assuming I’ll get sent another appointment however she’s now 8 months old so she was due her second vaccinations at 12 weeks 3 months and she is 5 months overdue by which point she would have had 3 more by now! - I’m terrified of her being poorly again I’m worried it’s been too long anyway! Am I horrible if I don’t make her have them? I’m just so paranoid and worried and it makes me sick to my stomach every time I receive a letter for them I just don’t wanna put her through it, please be nice first time mum and I just want advice 😭?

Glitterstars · 17/05/2023 14:33

It’s really important to have them, although the aftermath is not nice it’s better than them getting the illnesses you are getting vaccinated against also protecting the vulnerable kids who cannot have the immunisations due to their conditions

Regenbogen22 · 17/05/2023 15:46

@Jamielouiseb I'm going to be very blunt and say yes, in reply to your question you are being "horrible" if you don't get her the second , very overdue lot of jabs. Please protect her and keep her healthy by having her vaccinated. These are the standard basic immunizations and a day of fever and feeling a bit crap is a lot better than the illnesses the jabs protect against.

Sorry, as I said, very blunt but you need to step up and book the appointment. She'll thank you later in life!!

Plus you have absolutely no idea if she'll even get a (perfectly normal) temperature after the 2nd lot!

Jamielouiseb · 17/05/2023 15:59

@Regenbogen22 thanks for your response I appreciate the honesty and I will get her booked but In the nicest way possible you saying ‘a day of fever and feeling a bit crappy’ is actually somethint I wish she felt. She had a temp of 40 or over for 8 days straight chronic diorea that ripped her stomach and insides apart as a side effect from the vaccination, cried morning till night for 10 days straight and had 4 hospital visits from what they did to her stomach from the chronic diorea she had. So I think having given my experience that’s why I’m sceptical. Again Not as bad as the diseases but to put her through all that again kills me inside.

Regenbogen22 · 17/05/2023 16:10

Okay, you didn't mention that.

In that case please get medical advice - maybe there is an alternate formulation of the vaccinations, maybe she was intolerant to something in them?

cptartapp · 17/05/2023 16:35

She's too old for the second rotarix (oral medication) now anyway. They can't have the second dose after 24 weeks. That usually gives them diarrhoea.
But get the rest done. Not too late. There are no alternative formulations.

This is not strictly speaking true. There are vaccines that don't contain certain ingredients that standard formulations do.

cptartapp · 17/05/2023 17:51

Is this the case for the primary course vaccines, vaxellis/infantrix hexa, Bexsero and Prevenar?

SErunner · 17/05/2023 22:01

@Jamielouiseb contact your GP surgery for advice and for gods sake follow it. A few days of upset or a lifetime of risk and potential death. I know what I'd choose 🙄

SErunner · 17/05/2023 22:02

Did anyone actually say her illness last time was the vaccinations? That sounds very extreme.
