Just hoping people will share their baby’s silent reflux experiences, symptoms and things that helped.

trying to figure out if this is a problem for DD.

I thought our first had silent reflux but it turned out to be tongue tie. Could that be what's going on for you?

Thank you for the reply. She had a tongue tie which was divided at 13 weeks (she is now almost 6 months) it improved feeding for the most part.

Basically she had silent reflux as she would gag and choke and at times you could actually see the milk come up and then she’d swallow it.

it seemed to all improve and when she had the symptoms she slept really well regardless.

for over two months her sleep has been horrendous, like ridiculously bad, and I’m just clutching at straws I think Trying the fine a reason behind her awful sleep and wondered if it could be silent reflux despite not really having the same symptoms anymore.

7 week old has silent reflux -Goes to sleep but wakes up after about an hour, makes a noise like he is clearing his throat and swallows. I get spit up but he is never ever sick. Then cannot get back to sleep. Its awful. Arches his back all the time and is just generally unsettled for ages after feeding.

His sleep is also fucking horrific. Not just at night , all the time. Like he had 6 hours in 24 yesterday. Because he is gaining weight, GP won't help with meds.

I'm not really offering any good advice...only thing that has helped is giving him a cuddle upright and trying to help him through it until it passes. Upright feeding, upright for 20 mins after the feed

Also I've heard there is usually an underlying reason for reflux. I think ours is a floppy larynx.

I dont know if that's true but just something I heard

Nat888 That’s helpful thank you. DD is horrendous at going to sleep and pretty much wakes every hour all night long, she will only breastfeed to sleep and that’s hit and miss as sometimes she refuses to do that.

it’s helpful to hear that there were symptoms of pain with others because there isn’t with DD, a few times a day she will clearly be swallowing something but it doesn’t seem to bother her and she doesn’t seem to scream or arch her back in pain. I think the sleeping might just be her temperament

Nat888 I hope your tiny one gets better as he gets older! It’s horrible when they are clearly in pain!

DS had silent reflux - was diagnosed when he was around 6 weeks I think.

He just wanted to feed 24/7 as it's the only thing that soothed him. He made the most strange noises when he was feeding and also when he was laying down.

I was mentally at breaking point due to lack of sleep and the non stop feeding. Armed with a lid of videos I'd taken on my phone, we went to the GP where I sobbbed. Got referred to hospital consultant who immediately put him on a high dose of Ranitidine.

Within a week, he was like a different child.

He stayed on Ranitidine until around 9 months when he was well established on solids then we weened him off.

Solidarity and sending you a big hug - it is utterly miserable for all concerned. I promise you it will get better x

Thanks lovely. It's bloody horrible. I can deal with the lack of sleep right now but seeing him in pain and not being able to rest is utterly breaking me.

I have his 8 week check up Thursday and I've going to try and push for the GP to do more
