5 week old won't take bottle and only sucks on breast for 5 mins at a time

Has anyone else experienced this? I have tried Tommy tippee bottles and MAM but he is not interested. He just wants the breast but even then he doesn't stay on for more than 5 mins at a time except at night feeds he might go 10. I don't know how he is getting enough milk.... he still has wet and dirty nappies though.

Should I just trust the process and accept he is getting what he needs?

Also any advice on how to get him to take a bottle would be much appreciated.

Going nuts here

Some babies only feed for 5-10 mins at a time, if they're efficient feeders. If he is gaining weight appropriately, is alert and happy and having wet and dirty nappies then he's getting enough. If he's fussy and constantly on and off the breast then might be worth getting someone experienced to observe you feeding.

Can't help with the bottles as neither of mine took them well. Just don't spend loads on all the different brands that try to con you into it!

My DD never fed for more than 5 mins at a time. With BF, as long as you are getting wet/dirty nappies and his weight is going up he is getting enough milk. How often does he feed?

Bottle, you need someone else to give it, and first couple of times you probably need to leave the house. 5 weeka is quite late to introduce a bottle but can be done for some babies. Does baby have a dummy?

If he's not losing weight and you're getting wet and dirty nappies he's all good. You need to reduce your expectations and let him learn how to breastfeed on his own timeline. My baby didn't have feeds longer than 5-10 mins until about 20 weeks. Keep going on the boob and leave the bottles for now would be my advice. Kathryn Stagg on Instagram is a IBCLC with a day by day what is normal feed. Very reassuring for new mums.

Is his weight gain satisfactory? One of mine was like this, never seemed to feed, but was a healthy weight and went through nappies like nobodies business. He'd even give me a nip if I offered a feed and he didn't want one, I had to teach him to shake is head to tell me no thanks.

As long as he's gaining weight, that 5 min is all he needs
