Hi I need some advice as it really is playing on my mind so I believe my baby is breathing not normally I have took him to a&e twice for it and doctors once but they all said it's fine but I'm still really unsettled about it I'm not sure why it's just really worrying me I'll add some photos of what I mean he sucks in them two side bits quite deep and just seems like he's breathing really fast but I might just be being silly and everything is fine but I wanted to ask other mums advice as well

I have a 4 week old baby and mine looks like this. I remember thinking her tummy looked a little odd when she was breathing. But looking at your pics, it looks sort of the same.

Yes my baby is 7 weeks old and he's breathing like this and I'm always scared he's pulling in at the ribs but I've been to professionals 3 times and they all said it's normal breathing but I just still don't feel right about it.

I remember reading something about if their chest goes in under the ribs and an issue and was worried as my child looked like your photo.

Nope, this was completely normal.

I think I recorded a video and send to HV or showed GP at 6 month check up.

The doctors have reassured you, therefore I won't suggest seeking medical help as that's been done.

I genuinely didn't believe mine was ok either but they really were. It's a lot more severe than this if you need to worry.

Bits move around a lot early on. A paramedic looked over my son and thought he had a hernia and then when a paediatrician looked she said it was normal as they’re still not fully formed. Is baby well in himself?
All that said: trust your instincts.

It is worrying when you read about things that can go wrong but please understand it really is normal. We've been there, too, and I was certain it was wrong, but it wasn't! This is what all/most babies look like.

This really isn't a chest retraction, this is just a normal baby breathing.

It sounds like you might be suffering with postnatal anxiety to me

Yes I think I might be I constantly think something is wrong or I'm not doing it right I would never want something to be wrong and I'm not picking up on it

I’m not sure it’s wise to trust a forum of strangers over medical professionals you’ve seen in person tbh

Babies take a while learning how to do things - breathe, feed etc etc. It looks normal and is likely he’s just figuring it out

Hugasauras · 08/08/2022 15:30

I'm not sure what I'm meant to be looking at as it all looks normal to me! Babies have weird breathing anyway. They do that periodic breathing thing which is always freaky.

Why don't you believe the a&e staff, you've seen twice, and your GP? All highly trained medical staff who will have a much better idea that people looking at pictures in the internet. Kindly, I suggest you access some support for your anxiety. Maybe speak to your Gp or Health Visitor.

@Jessicawi

I have no advice about your baby's chest, however I would say I know it can be difficult but do try trust the professionals, to a point. Just wanted to comment and say that I suffer with anxiety too regarding my baby's health, it's only just settled down at 12 weeks. Although, I don't feel like I have anything to worry about at the moment, so it could come back. Your not on your own, it's just because we love our babies so much and they are so very precious to us ❤️. Also I'm a first time mum so wouldn't know what to expect. Xx

rach1stbaby · 08/08/2022 15:37

Side note to say I'm having meetings about my anxiety, I need to be better for my babies sake ❤️ it was effecting my mood terribly and I was a less playful mummy. X
