Toddler bed or bigger?

My DD has always liked to be held or cuddled to sleep, more recently she wants us to lie with her BUT she's still in her cot so it's either on our bed in a different room, on the floor or in the armchair in her room.
Moving her into her cot is getting more and more tricky and it's disturbing her sleep so it's time to switch to a bed!
I'm torn though, between getting her an extendable ikea toddler bed and either DH or I squeezing with her until she sleeps, or getting a bigger bed for the space so we're all a little more comfortable?!
Problem is I don't have the room for a standard length bed so would need to go made to measure.

I know that the ideal thing to do would be to get her comfortable falling asleep on her own but believe me, I've tried, and im all out of ideas on that front 🤦‍♀️

Any mums here with experience of squeezing into toddler beds - my gut tells me I'd regret not getting a bigger bed, but my bank balance will thank me!

I got into the toddler bed but I'm small.

I'd get the bigger bed.

My kid's cot was the size of the small setting of the IKEA extendable bed. I could fit in it but with knees bent and it was ok. Even my very tall DH was ok with it.

If you are buying a new bed, I would go for a normal single. That is if you have the space. The extendable bed has a funny mattress 🤷🏻‍♀️

We had a cotbed so did convert and use it as a toddler bed for a while but if we had just had a cot then we'd have moved from cot to single bed.

The toddler bed only got about a years use and she'd have been fine in a single before then we just wanted to get as much use as possible out of it.

Get the bigger bed and a bed guard. Its cheaper in the long run, more comfortable, child feels more grown up and its safe.

My dd went straight into a single. It was a adult trundle so higher than average. I think she was 2 1/2 ish. Had a bed guard on. No issues at all. I didn't see the point buying a toddler bed and it was useful being able to get in with her sometimes. I'd go for the made to measure if you're going to need it eventually anyway. Don't get a short one, get normal height otherwise that's a waste of money.

How long is she going to be in that bedroom that doesn't have room for a normal bed? If for a number of years, I'd just get the biggest possible bed you can.

Toddler beds are pointless. Get as big as you can fit. Doesn’t have to be made to measure, you could get a standard single size then you saw 10cm off each of the long slats while you assemble it. Just needs a bit of thought and to buy a wooden simple assembly bed.

You’ll be spending a lot of time leaning into the bed for a cuddle when they’re ill/nightmares so get the biggest you can!

If your DD is staying in that room for years to come I'd suggest buying the biggest that you can fit - you'd have to change again eventually so you may as well only do it once.
