Swimming floats for 2 month old

Hi,
my DD is 2 months old and has just had her immunizations. She’s about 10lb currently and I wanted to start taking her swimming next week or in the next couple of weeks.
Can anyone recommend a swim float to use? It’s s bit of a minefield and most I’ve seen say 3 months plus but the health visitor said she is fine to go after her immunizations. Thank you 😊

You can get a float that is like arms bands with a front bit. I found it very helpful. I'll try and see if I can find the name.

Wouldn't bother with floats. She's fat too small. You'll be holding her the entire time and you'll only be in for 10-15 mins with a tiny baby as they get cold super fast so just get a wetsuit-type swimming costume (Happy Nappy ones are good) for now.

At this age, it’s best not to use any float but to simply hold them in the water

Don't use any. Look for photos/videos of how Water Babies teach, or book a course of lessons with them, and the baby will develop confidence and ability without relying on artificial floats.

Arm band swim jacket

dementedpixie · 07/08/2022 17:53

I'd just hold her tbh

HappyGoDucky · 07/08/2022 17:54

Don't get anything it's not necessary and she'll grow out of them in no time. Work on getting them confident andrelaxed. Hold them close to the water chin on surface, on front and ears in water on back. Wash hair and face.... maintain eye contact and talk to them.

Just hold her. They're so tiny at that age and easy to manoeuvre around.

Ok thank you! Did anyone find their babies just screamed in the water?! Mine might do that and I’m always a bit nervous about that!!!

Mine wasn’t so keen when she first went in, probably cos it was cold, but she didn’t cry.

She did however, sleep for ages after

Don't react. Appear entirely relaxed. If you are going with one baby then hold her but more than that then definitely floats if you are going yourself

I bought this

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B08ZS2R846?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

But did a combination of playing and floating.

Flowergirl111 · 07/08/2022 20:11

Just the one baby! Ok thanks. Silly question but don’t react to DD and appear relaxed? So she feels relaxed with me you mean? Sorry FTM and everything is so new!!

Look into lessons with Water Babies. They're lessons for parents as much as the babies, and they'll help you get your DC used to the water, and give you lessons in how to swim them safely.

My DS started lessons at 6 weeks. He was swimming independently by the age of 4. He's now 8 and swims competitively for his pony club tetrathlon competitions and Scouts swimming galas, and just got his 400m badge.

The water babies lessons are worth their weight in gold.

Agree not to use floats. Check the temperature of the pool you're planning to go to, you need it nice and warm then they are unlikely to scream. We do water babies (highly recommend) and all the pools they use are hydrotherapy pools so very warm. And regardless of pool temp at that age I'd recommend a wetsuit. Splash about do a good one.

My dd only screamed when she was really tired - baby pool was heated so she used to like it in there.
