When did your babies sleep through the night and..

When did it actually become fun? My DS is finally slowly growing out of the potato stage and becoming more interested in the world.
He's 13 weeks in 2 days and it's still pretty boring. He can't grab toys yet, nor does he swat at them on his play mat. But it's still 100 times better than the first 2 months.
He used to sleep almost 4 hours followed by a 3 hour stretch but now he's gone back to being a terrible sleeper, almost like newborn. 3hrs, 2hrs, 2hrs. And he doesn't always seem to be hungry either. Just very fussy. I can't soothe him unless I give him a pacifier. Then he falls asleep within a couple minutes.
I'd probably feel much more content being a mum if sleep was better. A couple weeks ago he slept 6 hours straight and I was the happiest person that whole day.

Both mine slept through just before 12 weeks. DD carried on sleeping through and is now 2. DS however started walking again at 20 weeks, then slept from 25 weeks for a couple of weeks then started walking again, he finally cracked it at 10 months and is now 1 and still sleeping through. I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear, but every baby is different.

There is nothing I want to hear or not hear. It won't scare me.
I'm a bit jealous of people whose babies sleep through the night from 12+ week. Who wouldn't be? But what do you even consider sleeping through the night? 6 hours? 8 hours? 7-7? IDK

I know you are referring to this as the boring stage but honestly.. enjoy that stage because my DS is 17 months and fuck me he is just none stop 😂 relentless

DC1: slept through the night from about 8 weeks old. Fun: hmm...they are 4 and still Hard Work. I think the balance between 'I hate this' and 'fun' was more in favour of the latter by the time they were about 18mo. Certainly the first 9 months were just mostly awful.

DC: 10 mo and the last few weeks is sleeping through about 60% of the time, so we are still waiting really! 'Fun', probably about a month ago tbh, they are a much much easier baby (apart from the sleep side hah).

DS1 slept 8pm-7am from 8 weeks; DS2 from 10 weeks. I followed the Gina Ford routine.

Slept through at 18mo. And it got more fun/interesting after 6-8months I think.. more interactive. 1 yo was nice as he was walking and amazing to see him discover things with that wide eyed wonder. Now 2yo it's 'fun' but we've hit the tantrums full force so it's hard to remember the fun times at the moment.

18 months old and still waiting....😂

It has got fun though, he is hilarious. But enjoy the newborn stage, because toddlers are savage!

DD1 about 2 yrs. DD2 for 2 weeks at 2 years, and then stopped. She is now 3 and I’m still waiting.

Sometimes: 3&2.
All/more than about 75% of the time' still havent at 5&3.

One bottle fed, one breast-fed.
Sleep was at its worst from 6-18n. With my youngest, she was either up pretty much hourly or just a few wakes, but one was for a 3 hour stretch. She's 3 now and was awake from 11:30-3:30am past night.

My babies slept through from about 10 weeks but the fun part didn’t really come until they were around 1 and started developing into proper mini people.

This is the same for me.

DD started sleeping through at 8 weeks and DS at around 10 weeks. DD started walking at 11 months and only really became fun at 12/13 months.

DD is now 15 months and loves going for walks outside. She’s constantly babbling and has her own little personality. DS is 3 months old, sleeps through the night and it’s great. Last night he slept from 18:45 - 04:45. Then went back to sleep from 07:00 - 10:00.
Life is great😂

Started sleeping through occasionally at 7 months then gradually more frequently. Consistently from 11 months excluding illness and teething (although these are pretty regular)!

The fun part - harder to say. It's definitely become more rewarding as she has got older but I'm not sure I'd describe it as 'fun'. Yes there are lovely moment each day but a lot of the time it is still just really hard work. Sorry to be blunt, just my perspective.

MGee123 · 07/08/2022 22:19

Ps sleeping through for me is from when you put them down to sleep in the evening and not waking until sometime later than 6am. I think anything from sleeping 6 hours straight can technically be classed as 'sleeping through' but not in my book!

Littleguggi · 07/08/2022 22:24

DC1 14 months when I stopped bf
DC2 10 months
When things became fun, age 3

Hyggeandhugs · 07/08/2022 22:26

Is it possible your DC is just going through the 4-month sleep regression? There's lots about it online (e.g. huckleberrycare.com/blog/4-month-sleep-regression). I haven't got there yet, but have been reading lots to prepare. At least if it's that, the end might be in sight for you 🤞🏻

Chickpea17 · 07/08/2022 22:39

Around 9 months also happened to be the same time we moved out her nursery.

That's interesting because I wouldn't personally consider my child to be 'sleeping through the night' if they were waking up before 5am. So OP is right to consider that everyone's definitions of that is different.

I say my eldest slept through the night from 8 weeks. What I mean really is that their sleep then enabled ME to 'sleep through the night' - as they'd sleep about 10/11pm until about 6/7am. I would go to bed soon after them so it felt like a vaguely acceptable sleep, as it wasn't interrupted. It gradually lengthened as bedtime moved earlier and they were doing a consistent 12 hours from about 9 mo.

DC2's 'sleeping through the night' now is usually about an 11hr stretch on the nights they do it. The other nights they wake once needing input and I don't consider that sleeping through, even if the wake up isn't until e.g. 5am.

That was an example of one night lol. He usually sleeps 10pm - 8am

pedropony76 · 08/08/2022 08:12

Also if sleeping 10 hours is not considered to be ‘sleeping through the night’ because they’ve woken up before 5/6am then there’s no helping you really. If you can’t be grateful for a baby to sleep 10 hours because they’ve woken up to early then you definitely enjoy waking up 2/3 times a night with them😂
