Confused about baby clothes sizes

Probably sounds like a stupid question but I’m confused about how to tell when DD has outgrown her clothes, especially the footed baby grows. I have several types that seem loose on top but tight in the legs when she tries to stretch her legs out. Are they meant to be this way or does she just have long legs? They look fine when she has her legs out ‘frog legs’ style. Label says they are for babies up to 9 lbs and she is around 8 lbs at the moment. For buying future clothes which brands are good for long legs? Or do I just buy the ones without feet, they seem much easier!

If they're tight on her feet when she stretches her legs, they're too small. I found M&S were always good for my long skinny girls.

You can go for no feet, in the summer that's fine, but trying to get socks to stay on babies is a maaaaassive pain in the tits.

I’d go for no feet
i think they’re too restrictive anyway
babies seem not to like them and seem to try to pull them off a lot

M&S have the biggest feet in baby grows/ sleepsuits... helps my little one last a bit longer before outgrowing them. If you go for footless rompers, then Next do the best socks for staying on (avoid ribbed socks as they 'bag' and stretch quickly and fall off)

Thanks for the tips! Will try M&S next time. Unfortunately that’s one of the only places I haven’t brought baby clothes from yet. It’s pretty hot in our house anyway at the moment since we live in one of the warmer parts of the UK so hopefully can get away without using the ones with feet most of the time for the next month or so.

I found that baby clothes shrink so much. I started washing at 30 and they lasted so much longer!

H&M do babygros without feet.

Baby clothes state a weight but then some go on height. If the feet are tight go up a size.
0-3 should be fine

You could always cut the feet off the ones you've already got if you're not feeling sentimental about them!

But yeah we moved to footless when DD started crawling as she got frustrated not being about to get purchase on the floor and kept getting her leg stuck upwards in the suits

Footless rompers are good and for long, slim babies I'd definitely recommend H&M, Tu Sainsburys, M&S and Next.

I got the H&M footless ones for my long skinny baby, otherwise he could turn around inside the footed ones if I bought them long enough.

Baby Gap roll socks don't come off - not cheap but worth it Grin

Unfortunately only available on line now Sad

Mamas and Papas (are they still going) came up small. M&S and John Lewis lasted longest.

Baby clothes sizes are as variable as womenswear! So definitely helps to find your favourites
