It's all tightly regulated so is roughly the same and there isn't a "best". Luckily neither of mine had problems on formula and could swap with ease but I know that's not the same for some babies. We mostly used Aptamil 1st because it was easy to find in our local shops, available as a powder and as ready made and wasn't as expensive as some of the other brands.

FindingANewLifePlan · 02/08/2022 09:35

Honestly, just pick one off the shelf and try it Smile

One isn't better than another as the regulations are strict, and some babies settle on certain brands more than others. It's just trial and error.

We've tried aptamil a couple of times but each time baby has had really bad wind, been sick, cried a lot.
We are currently waiting for one called Kendamil to arrive as the reviews were really excellent for that one.

Buy whichever one is most available in your nearest shop / garage at 2am.

Switching formulas can upset baby's tummy and you do not want to be caught short in the middle of the night.

We went with cow & gate - DD has been absolutely fine. Glad I did as I originally wanted to go with HIPP but there were significant supply issues earlier this year, which would have been a pain. Cow and gate also has a big range of the ready made formula for when you are out and about.

We use aptamil 1. Baby boy has started to be q bit fussy with it but we think thats for other reasons. Been OK on it for 6 weeks before that.

Honestly they are mostly one of the same except the dairy free etc. It's just mostly marketing because as above its so regulated they can't be much different legally.

I also recommend the perfect prep or baby bezza. They will save your life especially if they are like my boy and give 0 warning he wants a bottle.

We also stock a good amount of ready made aptamil for going out and about

chilledbubble · 02/08/2022 10:25

They are so tightly regulated they are pretty much all the same.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 02/08/2022 10:26

Aldi as its half the price of the big brands

Nat888 · 02/08/2022 10:42

And the difference between ready made and powder is just cost and convenience. Some babys may naturally get on best with one brand over another but I would start with the one that's easiest for you to get hold of honestly.

Thank you everyone. At the moment we’ve been using the ready made aptamel bottles with the teats. Before that he was EBF so it’s taken him about a week to settle, we had 6/7 poo’s on the first day! But that’s gone down to 2 now and he’s not being as sick as he was at the start. I’ve heard Kendamil is really good but it’s always out of stock when I’ve tried to order it 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄

We always used aptimel for first little one but been told Aldis mamia is basically the same except a lot cheaper cx

notagain81 · 02/08/2022 19:53

Hip organic was the one that agreed with mine and my sisters babies after trying lots of different ones

WingingItEveryDay7 · 02/08/2022 19:55

We use Aldi's Mamia as it's smooth when made up and the price helps too, a friend recommended it years back for our first. We used aptamil originally but it always had bits on the inside of the bottle where the powder never fully dissolved... We use the ready made aptamil when we need too as for some reason that version is also smooth 🤷‍♀️

Gooseysgirl · 02/08/2022 20:04

The only one mine could get on with was Hipp Organic. Both had expressed breast milk for the first 3-4 weeks, then gradually moved on to formula.

Buttons0522 · 02/08/2022 20:09

As PP have said it is so closely regulated it is very much one of the same. Aptamil and cow and gate definitely come out of the same factory, but Aptamil costs more. I believe Aldi mamia is also the same but not sure if they do ready made by now (my youngest is 2!) and the lack of ready made led us to avoid it. Heard great things about kendamil as being most natural etc.

One tip - try get him used to having it at room temp/any temp… first born more than happy to have milk at any temp and both powder and ready made, second born was a nightmare as he would only have it at perfect prep temp (and is still prickly about the temp of a cup of warmed milk before bed now!!) - we put it down to him being a lockdown baby and having had every bottle from the prep machine so wasn’t used to anything different!

We used Mamia at home and then whatever was available in the nearest shop for ready made which we used when out, usually aptamil or cow and gate. DS never had any issues with switching.

Dalaidramailama · 02/08/2022 20:25

The cheapest, they are all nutritionally sound so I would go for the aldi one.

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 02/08/2022 20:27

My only advice is never buy more than 2 tins at a time. You never know when your baby might go off it and it's shit to waste it, plus expensive

RidingMyBike · 02/08/2022 20:28

Whichever you can get hold of most easily! We found it convenient to use one that was available as both powder and ready to feed - mainly used powder with the ready to feed as a backup or if we were out of the house for a long time. Baby was combi-fed 50/50 BF/FF for first year.

We used Aptamil as it was readily available in several shops in our town. I liked the look of Hipp, but it was only in one shop and they always seemed to be out of stock.
