6 week old addicted to dummy

My 6 week old has reflux and so I have been giving her the dummy. However, her reflux has improved but now she wakes wanting the dummy! How do I wean her off it at this age? I miss her long 2-3 hour naps and now it is just 20-30 mins! Any thoughts?

A 6 week old isn’t addicted to anything.
2-3 hour naps are incredibly long and really not something you can expect to continue consistently.
You can stop offering the dummy if you choose but your baby finds comfort in it so it seems a bit pointless to remove it. She isn’t waking because she has a dummy, she’s waking because she’s 6 weeks old.

Leave her with the dummy. DS had his till around 2.5 he was easy to get off. At 6 weeks if it makes your baby happy and things a bit easier for you just let her have it

At that age your newborn is beginning to wake up more in terms of their alertness. Developmentally the naps get shorter at that age (usually one sleep cycle - can often time it as it'll be scarily similar timing nap to nap, usually about 40-45mins) and then they stay short until baby learns to link sleep cycles during the day which can be from 5-6months old.

So, it's all totally normal. They're not addicted to the dummy!

Maybe she's having a growth spurt and is actually waking to feed?? Giving her a dummy is counter productive as it will only satisfy her for a short while, until she becomes ravenous.
Sleeping for 2 to 3 hours at a time is normal for a 6 week old, especially if they've had a good feed and would even be ok to leave her to sleep for 4 hours.

The dummy will be helping the reflux too. But yeah at 6 weeks old I was lucky to get 45 min naps out of my little one. 2-3 hours didn't happen until about 8 months

Dummy will help with reflux

Babies' naps change all the time, fluctuating with all sorts of resins- growths spurts, aches and pains, heat (we are in a heatwave), cold, reflux, - so don't let that put you off. When she is deep in sleep she won't miss a dummy that has fallen out and as she gets older she'll put dummy back in herself when she wakes unless it has dropped out of her cot. Mine had dummies until they were 2.5-3 years old. All have beautiful straight teeth no one sucked their thumbs (which you can't take away) and they all slept very well. Don't believe the bad hype about dummies ! They were a Hail Mary for my DCs sleeping well and being able to deal with reflux and being unsettled. If your baby likes her dummy let her keep it.

In my mum's day dummies were frowned upon yet I sucked my thumb until I was over 9 years old and had to have braces as a result Confused

Bloody hell.

Sucking is a massive comfort.

Let them do so.
