Keratosis Pilaris

Hello parents!

I live in the UK and my 7 1/2month old is struggling with Keratosis Pilaris. We went to our Doctor and he confirmed it is KP but he did not want to describe any creams for it. So now I am left to trying to figure out what might help my little man.

We use Aveeno cream for everyday moisturising twice a day but it doesn't really help with the KP. The bumps (and redness) are quite pronounced on his legs and arms and he also has it on his cheeks and ears.

Do you guys have any recommendations of creams that helped your little one? I know it' not going to get cured but I would love to be able to reduce the bumps and redness.

Thank you!

Hi! I know this is an old thread but how are you getting on with this? My LG has it on her face and after essentially a year of back and forth KP has been settled on. We’ve been using flexitol urea cream and in the first day it settled it so well! The bumps have settled but the redness is persisting! My doc said that once she reaches 2 she can prescribe something with salicylic acid in which will help more. But I’ve heard that ameliorate creams work well too. I’ve also read that certain deficiencies can contribute to it too. I’ve asked to be referred to a paediatric dermatologist at my local hospital as I want to get to the bottom of how to manage it properly.

My daughter is nearly 10 and had this on her face since she was a few months old. It can be really hard to come to terms with. I'm worried what it will be like for her when she's a teen, or hoping perhaps the hormonal changes will change her skin.

We use the CeraVe wash as well.

I'd say anything topical isn't getting to the root of the problem, I'm sure it means there's an imbalance somewhere in the body, maybe an intolerance / gut health issue?

I cleared DD's with prebiotics and diet, it's not come back. Hers was milder though, just on the upper arms. However younger DS has it too, it's worse than hers was and proving harder to shift so far.

I'm not sure that's true @Puffling235. It's common for children to grow out of it, which may have been the case for your daughter? It's a skin condition, these generally respond well to topical treatment. Cause of it as far as I understand is unknown. The mechanism is a build up of keratin in the skin follicles. It's generally hereditary, I have it and so does my daughter.

I disagree, but I'm not here to convince you. All skin conditions arise from an imbalance in the body and are closely linked to nutrition. Anyway, others can do their own research.

Okay, I think we can agree to disagree :)
