I’m exhausted I have 4 children 11 10 8 and 5 (oldest 2 have asd) I’m a single parent so they have with me 24/7 don’t see their father. Just want some tips on how I can get more energy and to stop feeling so exhausted all the time? no negative comments please I’ve posted before and some people can be very rude so I’m posting on parenting instead hoping people are less likely to be rude. I’m at my wits end and struggle to get up in the mornings let alone go out. Any help with how to not be so exhausted all the time?

Take a good quality multi vitamin and mineral. Eat as well as you can wirh no junk food sugar and minimal alcohol. Exercise in the fresh air every day . Try and ring fence an hour in the evenings when your kids know not to disturb you. Turn off your phone as much as you can. Read rather than watch TV.

Get out in nature. Meditate. Don’t watch the news.

This is it.

Hard, but it is actually the only answer.

Along with all that advice, start giving the kids age appropriate chores.

The older ones should be able to clean and tidy their own rooms, the younger ones should be able to tidy them and help with things like washing up etc.

If you're struggling to get up as well I suggest a trip to the GP. Depression can often manifest in feelings of exhaustion.

Am not surprised you are exhausted OP.

I have been intermittent fasting lately and it’s amazing what it does to my energy levels. Have been away the last couple of weeks and gone back to my old eating ways and have felt the difference - all sluggish again.

Have you had a full set of bloods down including for

Anaemia
Vit D
Thyroid

As well as everything else?

Also could you be peri-menopausal?

It sounds like such naff advice, but drink loads of water. I have a busy job that makes me tired, I complain I’m tired at the end of the day and then DH picks up my still very full water bottle and says ‘have you had any of this today?’. Being busy, I forget to drink it. I just have a couple of sips. But I can physically feel the difference when that bottle is empty at the end of the day.

Have you had a check up with your GP recently. Vit D, B12, Iron and Ferritin levels should be checked as well as TSH for thyroid levels. All of these can cause exhaustion and can all be easily fixed

I get exhausted unless I take strong iron supplements (prescription) - takes about a month to start working though.

Got four DC too, have help from DH and still exhausted. I have an underlying health condition though, so always in bed early each evening. Youngest is almost 5.

Lots of great advice already given. I have just accepted it's gruelling until the youngest ones are a bit older.

Thanks all I had wondered if it was depression but I really don’t want to take medication I really don’t enjoy being a mum I’m just so stressed and tired all the time

I thought I had depression. Turned out it was an iron deficiency. First step definitely to get checked out medically. You sound fatigued so the first thing to check is any type of anaemia.

There's nothing wrong with taking medication for depression. If you have a headache you take a pain killer, if you're diabetic you take insulin, etc.

It could help to settle you while the other measures help
